Sports Desk. The second and final match of the ongoing Test series between India and South Africa will be played in Cape Town. This match will be the last match of international cricket for former South African Test captain and experienced opening batsman Dean Elgar. In this match, Elgar will be seen captaining the South African Test team for the last time, as regular captain Temba Bavuma will not be able to play the second Test due to a hamstring strain. Zubair Hamza has been included in the team in his place.
Let us tell you that Bavuma’s hamstring in his left leg was stretched while fielding on the first day of the first Test played in Centurion. Due to this he did not even come out to bat. In his place, Aiden Markram took over the reins of captaincy. Since Bavuma has been ruled out of the series, the South African Cricket Board has appointed Elgar as the captain of the team for the final Test to give a memorable farewell. Left-handed batsman Elgar played an important role in the host team’s innings and 32-run victory over India in the first Test. In reply to India’s 245 runs in the first innings, South Africa scored 408 runs. In this match, Elgar held one end and played a tremendous innings of 185 runs. He hit 28 fours in his innings of 287 balls.
It is noteworthy that Elgar has so far scored 5,331 runs in 150 innings of 85 Tests at an average of 38.08. His highest score in the longest format of cricket is 199 runs. He has 14 centuries and 23 half-centuries in his name. He is at 8th position in terms of scoring most runs in the red ball format for South Africa. Elgar had announced his retirement even before the start of the Test series against India. The form Elgar is in at present, it seems that he will leave no stone unturned to make his last Test memorable. Along with scoring runs with the bat, his eyes will also be on South Africa’s 2-0 series win over India.
