India’s Asia Cup 2025 win has been marred by an off-field dispute involving ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. After India defeated Pakistan in the final, Naqvi departed with the championship trophy, preventing its official handover to the BCCI. Under normal protocol, the trophy would be sent to Mumbai. Naqvi’s demand for a ceremonial event to present medals to the Indian team, with him as the central figure, has been rejected by the Indian side. This decision follows Naqvi’s previous controversial statements. The Indian team and the BCCI have decided not to be part of any event where Naqvi is involved. The presentation ceremony was delayed significantly, and while some individual player awards were distributed, a unified celebration for the winning team did not occur. The situation has resulted in a diplomatic standoff, with the Asia Cup trophy remaining out of India’s reach, while the Pakistani team was awarded their medals.
