The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship is witnessing an Indian onslaught, with the hosts celebrating 10 gold medals after a stellar second day in New Delhi. This commanding performance includes five silvers and one bronze, dwarfing Uzbekistan’s three golds in second place.
A highlight was the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team silver by Samrat Rana, current world champion, and Suruchi Singh, World Cup Finals victor. They aced qualification with 583 points among 10 teams but bowed 479.6-481.3 to Uzbekistan’s Nigina Saidkulova and Mukhammad Kamalov in the decisive 48-shot final.
Rising stars lit up individual events. Rashmika Sehgal’s left-handed precision yielded 237.9 for junior women’s gold, Vanshika Chaudhary’s 236.7 silver, over Indonesia’s bronze winner. In youth, Priyanshi Porwal led with 234.8 gold, Chahak Kohli 233.0 silver, edging Chinese Taipei.
Team events delivered doubles. Junior women’s team of Rashmika, Vanshika, and Agam Grewal tallied 1,714, leading Kazakhstan by 43. Youth counterpart Priyanshi, Chahak, and Shiksha Saran scored 1,709 against Kazakhstan’s 1,627 for another gold.
With Vietnam and Chinese Taipei in the mix but outshone, anticipation mounts for Friday’s mixed team pistols and three men’s 10m Air Rifle finals. India’s shooters are poised to etch more records in this continental spectacle.
