The GST Council has decided to impose a 40% GST on tickets for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Previously, the rate was 28%. This will likely make IPL tickets more expensive, directly impacting the fans’ wallets. Those attending matches in the stadium will have to pay more for their tickets. For instance, an IPL ticket previously costing ₹1000 with a 28% GST, totaling ₹1280, will now cost ₹1400 due to the new rate, an increase of ₹120. Similarly, a ₹500 ticket will increase from ₹640 to ₹700, and a ₹2000 ticket will increase from ₹2560 to ₹2800. This change is expected to affect stadium attendance during IPL 2026.
