Following RCB’s historic IPL title victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on June 3, 2025, and the subsequent tragic events during the victory celebrations, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has made a significant announcement. Modi’s statement hints at a possible sale of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise. He indicated that the team’s owners may have decided to sell, despite previous denials of such rumors. He highlighted the team’s IPL triumph, large fanbase, and robust management as appealing factors for potential investors. Modi predicts that this sale could establish a new benchmark for IPL franchise valuations, underscoring the league’s increasing value. He anticipates that a large global fund or sovereign fund would be eager to acquire RCB. The brand value of RCB reportedly rose to $269 million after the title win. The auction process is expected to be handled by Citibank.
