Aiden Markram, instrumental in South Africa’s World Test Championship Final win against Australia, spoke candidly about how the team’s loss to India in the T20 World Cup impacted his approach to the WTC final. Markram’s match-winning innings, which saw him score 136 runs and secure the Player of the Match title, was made even more significant by the sting of the previous defeat. He highlighted the feeling of powerlessness he experienced in the T20 World Cup and how it drove him to succeed in the WTC Final. ‘It was always about just trying to get the job done and trying to win,’ he added. Although he had a poor start in the first innings, Markram bounced back and delivered one of the best performances of his career. The win also marks an eight-match unbeaten streak for South Africa in Test cricket.
