Amidst reports of a potential trade for Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, Mohammad Kaif has strongly advocated for Yashasvi Jaiswal to assume the captaincy role. Kaif pointed to Jaiswal’s international exposure and consistent scoring ability across the globe as key qualifications for leading the IPL side. “In my opinion, he should be the captain,” Kaif asserted, citing Jaiswal’s readiness for leadership, even if national opportunities have been limited due to established stars. The former player lauded Jaiswal’s attacking style and maturity displayed during the IPL 2024 season, where he proved to be a vital top-order batsman. While Riyan Parag’s breakout season with over 500 runs makes him a notable contender, Kaif suggested that Parag would need a period of development and support to grow into a leadership position. Sanju Samson’s tenure as captain has been successful, including a finals appearance in 2022. However, with trade rumors circulating, the Rajasthan Royals might need to consider their next generation of leaders, with Jaiswal being Kaif’s primary choice.
