The BCCI has introduced a new ‘Serious Injury Replacement’ rule for multi-day matches in domestic cricket. This rule will come into effect from the 2025-26 season, providing replacements for injured players in the multi-day format. Rishabh Pant’s injuries prompted the BCCI to take this step. Under the new rule, if a player is ruled out of a multi-day match due to a serious injury, the team management can replace him with a player of similar qualification. This replacement will be implemented immediately, subject to the approval of the selection committee and the match referee.
