Suleiman Al-Obaid, the 41-year-old star player of the Palestinian National Football Team, lost his life in an Israeli airstrike. He was waiting in line for aid in southern Gaza on August 6th when the attack occurred. Al-Obaid was considered one of the all-time best football players, earning the nickname ‘Palestinian Football’s Pele.’ During his career, he scored over 100 goals.
The PFA released a statement confirming Al-Obaid’s death, highlighting his significant contributions to Palestinian football. His death brings the total number of athletes and their families killed in Gaza since the war began to 662. The number of football-related deaths in Gaza has now reached 321, including players, coaches, referees, and club board members.
