Rishabh Pant, India’s vice-captain, was seen arguing with the umpire and throwing the ball during the first Test against England at Leeds. The incident occurred on Day 3 when Pant questioned the condition of the ball and asked for it to be changed. The umpire, however, using a standard gauge, determined that the ball was still within acceptable parameters. Pant’s frustration boiled over, leading him to throw the ball in anger after the umpire denied his request. The event occurred during the 63rd over of England’s innings, with Ben Stokes and Harry Brook at the crease. The ICC Code of Conduct, as per Wisden, suggests that Pant’s actions may result in penalties. These could include charges for dissent (Article 2.8, a Level 1 or 2 offense) and throwing the ball (Article 2.9).
