On Saturday, September 6, Cristiano Ronaldo added another achievement to his illustrious career. He broke Lionel Messi’s record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Portuguese veteran, still performing at a high level at the age of 40, contributed significantly to Portugal’s commanding 5-0 win over Armenia in Yerevan. Ronaldo’s two goals increased his total in World Cup qualifying matches to 38, exceeding Messi’s previous record of 36. He is now just one goal behind Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz, who leads with 39 goals. The match also saw Joao Felix, recently signed to Al Nassr, score twice for Portugal, and Joao Cancelo also found the net. Following the victory, Cancelo honored his teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a recent car accident. This win cements Portugal’s lead in Group F as they progress through the qualifying rounds. Their next challenge awaits against Hungary on Tuesday.
