Former Bangladesh cricketer Manzurul Islam has been handed a comprehensive ban by the BCB, curtailing his involvement in cricket after substantiated findings of misconduct. The ex-selector, linked to the women’s team, faces this fallout from Jahanara Alam’s harassment accusations during the 2022 World Cup.
Board members convened at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium Sunday, endorsing the independent committee’s report. Of four allegations, evidence supported two counts of inappropriate conduct, flouting professional codes and judicial guidelines on abuse.
Manzurul stepped down from his selector and manager positions last June, but the probe retroactively exposed lapses. BCB affirmed: ‘The committee’s review of the former captain’s complaint resulted in banning Manzurul from all BCB cricket activities.’
Simultaneously, the board prolonged Ghazi Ashraf Hossain’s selection committee leadership by a month and fast-tracked the women’s BPL, launching April 4 culminating April 14.
This episode marks a pivotal moment for Bangladesh cricket, prioritizing victim voices and ethical governance. With women’s leagues on the horizon, the BCB is positioning itself as a leader in fostering safe environments, potentially influencing global standards.
