Ravi Shastri, former captain of the Indian cricket team, voiced his disapproval of Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the Birmingham Test. India, trailing 0-1 in the series after losing the Leeds Test, chose to rest Bumrah despite his availability after a seven-day break. Shastri, speaking to Sky Sports, found this decision difficult to understand, emphasizing the crucial nature of the match. He believes Bumrah should have been included to counter the England side aggressively. Shastri pointed out that the captain and coach should prioritize the playing XI selection, especially given the series context. This move seems unusual considering India’s historically poor record at Birmingham. Additionally, Bumrah’s wife had previously advocated for his participation in all Tests.
