In a poignant moment after India’s Super 4 victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian captain, embraced Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. The match went to a super over, with India emerging victorious and securing their spot in the final against Pakistan. Yadav expressed his sympathies for the loss of Wellalage’s father, who passed away on September 18th. The emotional meeting saw Yadav offering comfort and support to the young cricketer. A video of the exchange has gone viral on social media. Earlier, Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha also met with Wellalage to offer his condolences. Wellalage’s father had a heart attack during the Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan match. According to reports, the heart attack occurred after witnessing his son’s performance. In the last over of the Afghanistan innings, Mohammad Nabi hit five sixes off Wellalage’s bowling. Despite the distressing circumstances, Sri Lanka won the match by six wickets, knocking Afghanistan out of the Asia Cup.
