A significant controversy has erupted in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) with allegations of ball tampering against Indian cricketer R Ashwin. The Madurai Panthers have lodged an official complaint, claiming that Ashwin’s team, the Dindigul Dragons, manipulated the ball during their June 14 match. The Panthers allege that the team used chemically treated towels, making the ball heavier, and causing a metallic sound upon impact. The TNPL is now seeking evidence to support these accusations. Prasanna, a TNPL representative, confirmed the complaint’s receipt and the request for proof. He indicated that an independent committee would be formed if the allegations are proven true. The Madurai Panthers’ COO, S Mahesh, highlighted the team’s concerns in a formal letter, emphasizing repeated warnings about the alleged ball tampering practices.
