The West Bengal government has officially appointed Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). This significant honor comes after her outstanding contributions to the Indian team during the recent ODI World Cup. The formal appointment letter was handed over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a vibrant ceremony at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The event also saw Ghosh being bestowed with the esteemed Banga Bhushan award. Complementing the official recognition, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) gifted her a symbolic golden bat and ball. Additionally, a cheque of Rs 34 lakhs was presented, directly linked to her impactful 34 runs in the World Cup final. Esteemed former cricketer Sourav Ganguly lauded Ghosh’s crucial batting performance at a difficult position, noting her skill in navigating high asking rates. He, along with the Chief Minister, expressed their belief that Ghosh possesses the leadership qualities to captain the Indian women’s cricket squad. Ghosh herself spoke about her winning strategy, focusing on setting practice targets and thriving under pressure in challenging match situations.
