When Pandit was asked how he motivated Iyer after he did not get a BCCI contract, he replied, ‘Any player would be disappointed by this (not getting a BCCI contract). However, this did not affect Shreyas Iyer’s performance. Whenever we talked about anything, we did not talk about this topic. It was clear to us that the work we have in hand right now is more important.’
He further said, ‘I still remember that after this incident he said that Sir I will prove myself. The way he batted in this IPL, he is now looking like a very mature and sensible batsman.’
