The T20 series in Harare was viewed by the Sri Lankan team as preparation for the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka, captained by Charith Asalanka, displayed their intentions with a strong victory in the first match. However, few could have predicted the team’s downfall in the very next match. Although there was some expectation and hope for Zimbabwe to win a match in the series, the extent of Sri Lanka’s defeat was unexpected.
In the match, Sri Lanka batted first, and wickets began to fall from the second over. The collapse continued until the final wicket fell in the 18th over. Eight out of Sri Lanka’s 11 batsmen were dismissed with single-digit scores. Kamyu Mishara top-scored with 20 runs off 20 balls, while captain Asalanka managed only 18 runs off 23 balls.
