  • India moves towards 6G! Nokia starts ‘6G Lab’ in Bangalore

Nokia on Thursday announced the setting up of a 6G lab at its Global Research and Development (R&D) center in Bangalore, India. This first-of-its-kind project aims to accelerate the development of technologies and innovative use cases based on 6G technology. The lab was inaugurated by Shri Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and IT, Government of India. After the deployment of 5G, India along with many developed countries of the world is also looking to move rapidly towards 6G. Nokia’s 6G Lab is in step with the ‘India 6G Vision’ of the Government of India presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. . This vision has been initiated by India as a global collaboration in standardization and development of 6G technology. Nokia says that the 6G Lab will serve as a platform for collaboration for this industry. Here, industry leaders will be given the facility to test innovative solutions. Nokia says that the lab includes a setup for researching ‘Network as a Sensor’ technology, which will enable the network to operate without the need for on-board sensors. Enables to understand objects, people and activities without. In the 6G era, ‘networks as sensors’ have been identified as a key enabling technology that supports the vision of bringing together the digital and physical worlds. Nokia further stated that the sensing will be fully integrated into the wireless network and will operate alongside communication services. This will allow people to look around, gather information about their surroundings and even communicate with distant objects. The lab will also provide an experimental platform for research on algorithms, privacy, and sustainable system design.
