  • Delhi CM Atishi’s Residence Vacated, Belongings Removed; AAP Slams BJP |

The PWD has sealed the Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s residence located at 6 Flagstaff Road. The department has put a double lock on its gate. This government residence was vacated after Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of Chief Minister. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that despite protocol, the bungalow has not been allocated to the current Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi.

The party claimed that undue pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was causing the delay in handing over the property, despite Kejriwal having vacated the premises. Atishi, who assumed the role of Chief Minister after Kejriwal’s resignation, moved her belongings into a Civil Lines bungalow in North Delhi earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, accused Chief Minister Atishi of occupying the Sheeshmahal. He said, “When Chief Minister Atishi has already been allotted a government residence AB-17 Mathura Road, she is still illegally occupying the Sheeshmahal. Why did Arvind Kejriwal give the keys of Sheeshmahal to Atishi instead of handing them over to Delhi PWD officials?”

“The officials of Kejriwal’s government are deliberately protecting this illegal occupation. I demand from the PWD department that Sheeshmahal should be sealed immediately and legal action should be taken,” he added.

On Wednesday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh held a press conference where he accused the BJP of obstructing the bungalow’s allocation to Atishi. Singh claimed that the Chief Minister’s camp office on the premises had already been vacated and provided documents to support the claim that Kejriwal had vacated the house in accordance with proper procedures.

He further alleged that the BJP had ulterior motives to “usurp” the bungalow, preventing its allocation to the current Delhi Chief Minister.

  • Delhi CM Atishi Slams BJP, Says -‘Stopped Road Works, Medicines…’; Vows To Resume Work |

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Lt Governor VK Saxena on Saturday for trying to stop the developmental work in Delhi and assured the people of Delhi that all work would resume.

“For the next four months, my work would be to take care of the people of Delhi. BJP has tried everything from jailing AAP leaders and stopping the work of development in Delhi. BJP and LG (VK Saxena) stopped the road works, stopped medicines from reaching the hospitals, and stopped the tests in mohalla clinics.

BJP and LG stopped the garbage collection in Delhi, but now I promise you that Arvind Kejriwal is out of jail, all these works will get completed. The garbage would be picked up, medicines will be supplied, the sewage work will be completed,” said CM Atishi in a press conference.

Atishi was sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister earlier today.

She further claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had conspired to keep Kejriwal in jail, but the AAP leader did not bow down to BJP.

“BJP put up a conspiracy against Kejriwal, put false allegations against him, and arrested him based on that. They kept him in jail for more than 6 months. But Arvind Kejriwal did not break or bow down. Supreme Court has given him bail, despite that in PMLA cases it is almost impossible to get bail. Not only that, they said that his arrest was due to bad luck, and said that Central agencies like CBI, ED are caged like a parrot,” she said.

“If some other neta would have been there, it would have been enough for them to get back to CM’s chair, but Arvind Kejriwal said that just Supreme Court’s decision is not enough, he wants to go to janta ki adalaat (people’s court) and prove that he is honest,” she added.

She also thanked Arvind Kejriwal for trusting her with the responsibility of being Delhi CM, referring to him as ‘Delhi’s son’ and the most popular CM in the history of Delhi.

“I would like to thank Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s son, the most popular CM in the history of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party’s neta, my elder brother and political guru, who trusted me and put such a big responsibility of taking care of Delhi’ people.

“Even though I have been sworn in as Chief Minister, the fact that Arvind Kejriwal is not the Chief Minister anymore is a very emotional thing for me and all of us. He has changed the picture of Delhi in the last ten years, he understood the pain of the common person, he understood how difficult it is for a common person to run a household.

Arvind Kejriwal gave free 24/7 electricity to people, he changed the future of the students who study in government schools, gave them a chance to progress in life. He gave free bus rides to women which allowed them to progress with their education and employment,” she added.

She further urged to the people of Delhi that their job is to make sure that Arvind Kejriwal will return as the Chief Minister, claiming that if AAP government does not win again then all the schemes and work done in the last ten years would be undone by BJP.

“Now the people of Delhi need to work together to make Arvind Kejriwal the CM again in the upcoming elections in February. If the people would not elect Kejriwal again then the free electricity, good schools would stop, mohalla clinics would close down and hospitals will stop treating patients,” she said in the press conference.

The Atishi-led government will have a short tenure, with assembly elections in Delhi scheduled for February next year. Her administration will need to expedite approvals for various pending policies and welfare initiatives, including the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, and doorstep delivery of services. In the previous Kejriwal government, Atishi managed 13 portfolios, including finance, revenue, public works, power, and education.

Besides Atishi, five ministers were sworn in the cabinet. AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat also took oath during the ceremony. The swearing-in ceremony saw the presence of former CM Arvind Kejriwal and party leader Manish Sisodia.

  • Atishi’s Task Cut Out: To Expedite Pending Public Welfare Policies Before Delhi Assembly Polls |

NEW DELHI: When Atishi takes oath as Delhi Chief Minister on September 21, she will enter history books as being only the third woman to accomplish the feat after BJP’s Sushma Swaraj and Congress’ Sheila Dikshit. Atishi’s elevation to the top post comes at a crucial juncture for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is looking to return to power in the Delhi Assembly polls early next year as well as for the government, which will have to fast-track pending policies and schemes for public welfare.

The senior leader will have her task cut out after assuming office and will be running against time to ensure implementation of schemes like Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 and doorstep delivery of services among others. However, Atishi is not new to rising to such situations. Her induction into the cabinet also happened when the government was going through testing times following the arrest of deputy chief minister and the then Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s trusted lieutenant, Manish Sisodia last year in excise policy case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Atishi, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, joined the Delhi government following the resignation of Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. Atishi, 43, took to governance, heading 13 major portfolios in the Kejriwal government, including those of finance, revenue, education and public works department.
She was unanimously chosen as the chief minister-designate during the legislature party meeting here on Tuesday.

Even though Atishi joined AAP in 2013, she stayed in the background working as an adviser to the government on education-related policies and made a foray into electoral politics only in 2019 when she unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from East Delhi against BJP’s Gautam Gambhir. Before venturing into active politics, Atishi dropped her surname Marlena, a portmanteau of Marx and Lenin, since she wanted that her political affiliations should not be misconstrued.

In 2020, Atishi again contested elections, this time the Delhi Assembly polls, and was elected as an MLA from Kalkaji. The fact that she enjoys the confidence of Kejriwal and Sisodia paved the way for her to succeed Kejriwal. Atishi’s parents Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi were Delhi University professors. She received her Bachelor’s degree in History from Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College and topped her batch.

She also holds postgraduate degrees in Education and History from the University of Oxford.
