  • CM Baghel was busy playing Candy Crush in Congress meeting, BJP taunted by sharing photo

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was playing ‘Candy Crush’ during an important meeting of Congress. However, there has been no reaction from Congress regarding this. According to the program released by the Election Commission of India i.e. ECI, voting is going to be held in the state in two phases on 7th and 17th November.

BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya has shared a picture. He has claimed that CM Baghel was seen playing games on the phone during the meeting. He wrote, ‘Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is also relaxed, he knows that no matter how much he fights, the government will not come. Perhaps that is why instead of paying attention to the meeting related to Congress candidate selection, he thought it appropriate to play CANDY CRUSH.

On Tuesday itself, Chhattisgarh in-charge of Congress Kumari Selja said that the Central Election Committee is going to meet on October 12 to discuss the candidates. He said, ‘…there will be a meeting of our Central Election Committee on October 12…. The final decision will be taken by CEC only. When they give the final approval to it, then the final list of candidates will be released.

    Political atmosphere of Chhattisgarh

In 90-seat Chhattisgarh, Congress had achieved absolute majority in 2018 by winning 68 seats. Whereas, BJP was limited to only 15 seats. This time BJP has launched a campaign in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi without presenting the chief ministerial face. On one hand, Congress is moving ahead with the help of public welfare schemes. At the same time, BJP has made preparations to corner the Baghel government on the issue of corruption.

  • What are the biggest election issues in Chhattisgarh? Understand here in 10 points

Today the Election Commission has announced the election dates of five states including Chhattisgarh. Shortly after the Election Commission’s announcement, Bharatiya Janata Party has also released the second list of its candidates in Chhattisgarh. Now both the parties have geared up to enter the electoral battle. On one hand, Congress is hoping to retain its power in the state by relying on the welfare schemes of the Bhupesh Baghel government. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to corner the government on the alleged corruption of the state government, religious conversion and unfulfilled election promises. Let us know what are the 10 big election issues in Chhattisgarh elections, which will decide who will become the CM of the state.

    Corruption

The Congress government is facing criticism over alleged scams in coal mining, liquor business, District Mineral Foundation (DMF), cow dung procurement scheme and Public Service Commission. Along with this, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating money laundering cases related to alleged coal levy racket, liquor scam, use of DMF funds and an illegal online betting app in the state. Top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, cornered the Bhupesh Baghel government over these issues in their rallies and accused the Chief Minister of turning Chhattisgarh into an ATM for the Congress. Responding to the attack, Baghel accused the BJP-led central government of misusing central investigative agencies to malign his government’s image.

    Schemes for farmers

Three major pro-farmer schemes have helped the Congress strengthen its position in rural and semi-urban areas. Under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, the government has given input subsidy of Rs 21,912 crore to about 23 lakh farmers growing Kharif paddy. A total of Rs 580 crore has been paid to cattle herders, Gauthan committees and women self-help groups under the Godhan Nyay Yojana (cow dung purchase scheme) in the state. Rajiv Gandhi Rural Landless Agricultural Laborer Krishi Nyay Yojana provides annual financial assistance to landless agricultural laborer families in rural areas. According to official data, assistance worth Rs 7,000 crore is being provided to approximately 3.55 lakh beneficiaries. The Baghel government has also announced that it will purchase 20 quintals of paddy during the current Kharif season compared to 15 quintals earlier. The positive impact of these schemes can pose a big challenge for BJP.

    Chhattisgarhiism

Chief Minister Baghel promoted Chhattisgarhianism i.e. regionalism in the last five years and continuously requested to be proud of regional pride. Congress claimed that the people of Chhattisgarh were completely marginalized during the 15-year BJP rule. Baghel promoted regional festivals, sports, art and culture. He directed that a statue of Chhattisgarh Mahtari (a maternal image representing Chhattisgarh) be installed in every district. The official residence of the Chief Minister hosts festivals like Teeja-Pora and Govardhan Puja. The state government also organized the National Tribal Dance Festival. Constructed Devgudi and Ghotul (traditional community centres) in tribal areas of the state and established Adivasi Parab Samman Nidhi.

Tension between Christian and non-Christian tribals, religious conversion

In the last two years, many incidents of clashes over religious conversion have come to light in tribal dominated areas, especially in Bastar division. Violent clashes between tribals who converted to Christianity and local tribals were reported from the Narayanpur-Kondagaon border area in December 2022. The BJP accused the government of protecting those involved in conversion. However, Congress denied this allegation.

    sectarian violence

Following incidents of communal violence in Kabirdham district in October 2021 and Bemetara district in April this year, the BJP accused the government of being biased towards a particular community. Congress accused BJP of playing communal politics in the absence of real issues. According to political experts, these incidents can polarize voters in Central Chhattisgarh.

    prohibition of alcohol

The BJP has targeted the Baghel government for not fulfilling the key election promise of liquor ban made by the Congress. It is believed that this promise helped Congress get women’s votes in 2018.

Regularization of services of contract employees

This was another major promise made by Congress in the 2018 elections which has not been fulfilled yet. In the last two years, around 1.50 lakh contractual daily wage earners and outsourced workers have protested over this issue. BJP has promised to include the demand of contractual employees in its election manifesto.

    OBC issue

Other Backward Classes (OBC), which constitute about 52 per cent of the state’s population, are demanding 27 per cent quota. The three major OBC communities, Sahu, Kurmi and Yadav, had largely supported the Congress in the 2018 elections. The issue became a matter of concern for the ruling party Congress when the Chhattisgarh High Court last year struck down the BJP government’s 2012 order increasing the overall quota in the state to 58 per cent. In the 2012 order, the quota for Scheduled Castes was reduced by four percent to 12 percent, while the quota for Scheduled Tribes was increased from 20 percent to 32 percent. Reservation for OBCs was kept unchanged at 14 percent.

The Congress government challenged the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. Later, a bill related to reservation was passed in the state assembly under which 32 percent quota was given to tribal community, 27 percent to OBC, 13 percent to Scheduled Caste and four percent to Economically Weaker Section (EWS). With this, there is a provision to give overall 76 percent reservation in the state. Both the bills are awaiting the approval of the Governor. In May, the Supreme Court had directed the government to implement 58 percent reservation.

    infrastructure

The BJP has alleged that infrastructure development in the state has stopped in the last five years and the condition of roads has deteriorated.

    central schemes

The BJP has accused the Baghel government of failing to implement the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and not implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission properly.

Conspiracy of 'Lal Diary' was hatched in BJP headquarters: Ashok Gehlot

    Jaipur:

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that the ‘Lal Diary’ conspiracy was hatched at the BJP headquarters, but it failed. Gehlot said that Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Zafar Islam were involved in the conspiracy related to ‘Lal Diary’ to topple the government. He said, “They (BJP) are toppling the elected government, they have no moral right to remain in power.” They toppled elected governments in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Then what is the meaning of elections?

It is noteworthy that Rajendra Gudha, the then minister of Gehlot government, had targeted the state government on crimes against women in the Assembly in July, after which he was dismissed. He had claimed to have a red diary which allegedly contained details of the Chief Minister’s irregular financial transactions. In Jodhpur on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the public in a questioning tone, “People say that every black act of corruption of Congress is in the Lal Diary. Should the dark secrets of Lal Diary be revealed or not? Should everything come out openly or not?

Sacked minister Rajendra Gudha had claimed that it contained details of financial transactions of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot also alleged that BJP leaders Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had conspired to topple his government. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was referring to the political crisis caused by the rebellion of the then Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and 18 other Congress MLAs in 2020.

Addressing a function at the Commerce College in Jaipur, Gehlot also hit out at the Prime Minister for targeting the Congress government for the communal riots in Jodhpur. Referring to the communal violence that took place in Jodhpur in May last year, the Prime Minister asked where the Chief Minister was when Jodhpur was burning.

Responding to this, Gehlot said, “I regret that today the Prime Minister said in Jodhpur that when people were dying in this city, where was the Chief Minister?” Don’t know who gives them information? Not a single person died in Jodhpur, there was only communal tension in Karauli and Jodhpur.” In the program on Thursday, the Chief Minister released the ‘Vision Document’ of the ‘Mission 2030’ Master Plan and ‘Gig Workers’ Also announced a lump sum assistance of Rs 5000.

He announced 90 percent concession in fare for women and girls on monthly travel passes in roadways buses. Gehlot also laid the foundation stone of works worth Rs 12,700 crore. He alleged that the Center has reduced the money given to the state. In the program, Gehlot announced to give a lump sum amount of Rs 5000 to the gig workers if they register with the state government. This amount will be given to them for the purchase of helmets, dresses, shoes and other items of daily use for the ‘gig workers’. Gig workers include ‘company representatives’, drivers etc. working with companies like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato. He said that all girls and women will be given 90 percent discount in bus fare if they get monthly roadways pass.

  • Caste-based calculations show that “80 per cent” are our supporters: BJP

Choudhary said, “BJP welcomes the caste-based enumeration which was ordered by the state cabinet when there were 16 ministers from our party, including two deputy chief ministers.”

The state president of BJP said, “Eighty percent of the figures that have come out are supporters of BJP.”

Choudhary’s reference was to the survey showing majority Hindu community as 80 percent of the state’s total population, which is being linked to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s so-called “80 versus 20” statement.

However, the Bihar BJP leader also claimed that many Extremely Backward Class (EBC) people like Dhanuk are complaining to him that their numbers have been shown less than estimated.

He said, “We will try to know the methodology of the survey from the government.” We suspect that Nitish Kumar has worked under the pressure of Lalu Prasad, whose politics of appeasement is well known.

Chaudhary said that if Nitish and Lalu really care about the MBCs then they should give up their hold on power and hand over the reins to the MBC people.

According to the survey, the Muslim population of the state’s total population of 13.07 crore is 17.70 percent.

Many RJD leaders say that according to the survey, the increase in Muslim population in percentage terms since the 2011 census has been less than one percent. This is contrary to BJP’s claims that the districts with open borders with Nepal and Bangladesh were undergoing demographic changes due to uncontrolled infiltration.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar on Monday released the findings of its much-awaited caste survey ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections which revealed that OBCs and EBCs constitute 63 per cent of the state’s total population.

According to the data, EBC (36 percent) has emerged as the largest social class followed by Other Backward Class population at 27.13 percent.

The survey also said that the population of Yadav community falling under OBC group is the highest at 14.27 percent.

Dalits, also known as Scheduled Castes, constitute 19.65 percent of the total population of the state, of which the Scheduled Tribe population is about 22 lakh (1.68 percent).

People belonging to the “unreserved” category, which refers to the upper castes that dominated politics until the Mandal wave of the 1990s, constitute 15.52 percent of the total population.

  • Fielding veterans in Madhya Pradesh, what is the plan in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh? BJP’s strategy decoded

BJP’s strategy in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly elections will be different from Madhya Pradesh. The party leadership can field some big leaders in these two states also, but like Madhya Pradesh, not all the big leaders will be fielded. A major reason for this is the existence of Congress government in both the states.

BJP will decide its candidate carefully in Rajasthan, because it is very important to worship Vasundhara Raje there. In Chhattisgarh, BJP has already fielded an MP in the first list.

More efforts on lost seats: At the end of this year, elections are being held in five states, but the most important ones for BJP are Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. These three states are BJP’s strongholds and the party has 72 out of 75 seats in the Lok Sabha. In such a situation, she is leaving no stone unturned to win the assembly elections of these states. As part of the strategy, she is working harder on the lost seats. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has recently fielded most of its big leaders in the assembly elections, including three Union Ministers, four MPs and one National General Secretary.

Party’s strategy to bet on big leaders: BJP sources say that the party is fielding big leaders under the new strategy, but the need and strategy of every state is different. Big leaders will also be fielded in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, but it is not necessary that it be like Madhya Pradesh. BJP has been in power in Madhya Pradesh for the last two decades.

Keep an eye on the anti-incumbency environment: He is in opposition in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. In such a situation, the anti-government atmosphere is different. In Rajasthan, power is changing every five years. In such a situation, where and how much the big leaders have to stake will depend on the situation there. In Chhattisgarh, BJP has already declared an MP Vijay Baghel as its candidate for the seat of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The party can also contest state president MP Arun Sao and MP Saroj Pandey.

Emphasis on harmony in Rajasthan: According to sources, BJP may field Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjunram Meghwal in Rajasthan. But the kind of equation that exists between Vasundhara Raje and Shekhawat in the state also has to be seen. The party is unlikely to anger the already angry Vasundhara Raje further. Sources say that the party may also contest elections from Rajasthan MP Bhagirath Choudhary. Later, Jyoti Mirdha from Congress can be fielded from her Lok Sabha seat. Along with Union Minister Kailash Choudhary, the names of MPs Kirori Mal Meena and Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria are also among those contesting the elections.
