  • iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, And iPhone 14 Prices Drop in India After Customs Duty Relief; Check New Price |

iPhone Price Cut: Good News For iPhone users! Apple has reduced the prices of its premium iPhone models in India. The California-based tech giant announced this after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024. The budget includes a reduction in basic customs duty on smartphones from 20 per cent to 15 per cent. It is important to note that the price cut also comes at a time when demand for iPhones seems to be slowing down in China.

Notably, this is the first time that Apple has reduced prices for its Pro models. However, the company usually discontinues Pro models after the new generation of Pro models are launched.

According to the Economic Times, despite these price cuts, the maximum retail price (MRP) of Pro models has stayed the same. However, dealers and resellers are offering selective discounts to clear out older inventory.

Furthermore, iPhone shipments in India climbed 39 per cent to 9.2 million units in 2023, making it the company’s fifth-largest market for its phones. India’s market for iPhones is larger than any single country in the European Union, as Morgan Stanley reported.

In India, imported smartphones are subject to an 18 per cent GST, a 22 per cent customs duty, and a 10 per cent surcharge on the basic customs duty. Let’s take a quick look at the new smartphone prices in India-

    – iPhone 15 Pro has been reduced by Rs 5,100 and is now priced at Rs 1,29,800.

    – iPhone 15 Pro Max has been slashed by Rs 5,900 and is now selling for Rs 1,54,000.

    – iPhone 15 Plus has also been reduced by Rs 300 and is now priced at Rs 89,600.

    – iPhone 14 has been lowered by Rs 300 and is now selling at Rs 69,600.

    – iPhone 13 has similarly been reduced by Rs 300 and is now available for Rs 59,600.

    – iPhone SE has received a more substantial price cut of Rs 2,300 and is now priced at Rs 47,600.

In the case of Apple, 99 per cent of the mobile phones sold in India are currently manufactured locally, with only a few high-end models being imported.

  • Budget 2024 Expectation: What Different Industries And Entrepreneurs Want From Government |

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharama will present the Union Budget 2024 tomorrow. The expectations are high from the government this time for all the sectors. While taxpayers are expecting a relief, industries from aerospace to mobility to legal advisories and import-export businesses are keenly looking at the budget. Take a look at what experts want from the NDA government:

Akshat Khetan, Founder of AU Corporate and Legal Advisory Services Limited (AUCL), said, “Union Budget 2024-25 is expected to focus on enhancing judiciary infrastructure, speeding up judicial appointments, and improving legal aid services. Emphasis will be placed on technological advancements, alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms, capacity building, and legal reforms. Increased funding for legal awareness campaigns and support for victims of crimes will also be prioritized.”

Dr Omkaar Hari Maali, Founder – Udyami Maharashtra, said, “The biggest expectation for the upcoming budget from aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly those in the export-import sector, is enhanced opportunities for funding. Currently, many new exporters have viable products but lack the financial resources to bring these products to the global market.” The Import-Export coach further said, “In addition to this, it is crucial for the government to establish incubation systems specifically designed for exports. The creation of manufacturing clusters should also include comprehensive training programs and accessible systems to support the export process. I also believe the government should focus on promoting the toy and processed foods industry to position India as the hub for these sectors.”

Jalaj Kumar Anupam, Director, Consent Elevators, said, “The government should consider raising the income tax exemption limit beyond Rs 5 lakh to ease the burden on citizens and promote compliance. Economic growth relies on a skilled workforce, necessitating investment in re-skilling and vocational training programs. Open e-tendering processes can enhance fairness and accountability, especially for MSMEs. This approach should extend to industries like the elevator sector, ensuring opportunities for all companies, not just major stakeholders.”

Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India, said, “It is crucial to continue increasing support for the rail and infrastructure sector. India’s infrastructure is in need of considerable capital investment in railways, metro, and regional trains to effectively cater to the needs of the growing economy in passenger and freight transportation. It would be encouraging to see the government’s push on Production Linked Incentive, tax rationalization, and towards equitable contract terms such as price variation conditions.”

Dr Urvashi Mittal, Association Secretary 24-25, Inner Wheel, said, “Females comprise 50% of the population. My request to the Finance Minister is to take care of this 50% of the population, benefiting the entire population. For working women, provide hassle-free, cheaper loans, focus on maternity leaves, and ensure creche facilities. Homemakers should have opportunities to supplement their income through online jobs, with a priority on training. Emphasize cervical cancer vaccination and increase the budget for mid-day meals, after-school supervision, courses on ‘Indian Culture’ promoting ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’ in schools and colleges & include Transgenders in main-stream.”

Dr Madhu Sudhan Reddy,  Founder of Pharmaceutical companies appealed to the FM to extend the NPA period for MSMEs from 90 to 180 days in the upcoming budget which is crucial for the revitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). “This extension will grant MSMEs more time to recover from financial challenges and avoid immediate default classification. The benefits include improved cash flow management, enhanced credit access, stimulated sectoral growth, and reduced operational stress for businesses. This move aligns with the need to bolster the backbone of the economy—the MSME sector,” said Dr Reddy.

Aravind Melligeri, Chairman & CEO, Aequs, said, “We are confident the Government will prioritize the Indian Aerospace industry’s growth while presenting the Union Budget 2024-25. At a time when India is emerging the biggest aviation market and accounting for most new aircraft sold globally, we need a booster for making the country a global aerospace manufacturing hub with a thriving domestic Aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. There is thus a need to ensure optimal fiscal mechanisms to make domestic Aerospace manufacturing more viable and attractive. For starters, a PLI scheme for the manufacture of aircraft components and sub-assemblies with an emphasis on high ‘in-country value addition’ will be welcome. Measures such as tax breaks for Aerospace R&D and systems development will also help.”

  • With ‘GYAN’, BJP Clears Its 2024 Poll Strategy To Counter Congress’ Caste Census Plank |

Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s pitch for caste-based census across the country in a bid to counter BJP’s Hindutva poll plank, the saffron party has played two major cards – one was ‘poor’ caste and now the ‘GYAN’. Reacting to the opposition’s demand for a caste census, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during assembly polls in November that there is only one caste for the government and that is ‘poor people’. He said that the NDA government has been working for the welfare of this caste.

Now, two months later, ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that ‘GYAN’ encompasses the Modi government’s four main focus points. Explaining ‘GYAN’, FM Sitharaman said that G stands for ‘Garib’ (Poor), Y for ‘Yuva’ (Youth), A for ‘Annadata’ (Farmer) and N for ‘Nari’ (Women). She said that PM Modi believes in focusing on these four ‘castes’ and the government is committed to the progress of these four sections. While some may have taken it lightly, this is a broader narrative on which the Modi government is working and is wooing the voters of this section.

The government has already been running various programs for these four sections and some of them are the SAUBHAGYA electricity scheme, Ujjwala LPG cylinder scheme, Skill India or Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), promotion of sports through TOPS and Khelo India, and Kisan Samman Nidhi. These are just some of the schemes of the Modi government that cater to these four sections and if taken a holistic view, any poor family.

Women and youth form a majority of the Indian voters and the NDA government has been able to keep this section happy in the 2019 polls and the continuation of such schemes is likely to help the ruling party in the upcoming polls as well. Congress, which has been talking about caste-based census each day ahead of the assembly polls in November, has not only toned down on the issue but now talks about it very rarely. Most probably, the grand old party may have realised that the narrative did not work in its favour and rather gave the BJP a chance to further highlight the schemes run by its government. Now, the question here is, can Congress find a fix to BJP’s ‘GYAN’ and ‘poor’ caste narrative? In the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress is not only facing an issue on the alliance front but it will have to find poll planks that resonate with the common people.

  • Ahead Of President’s Budget Session Address, Rajya Sabha Chairman Revokes Suspension Of 11 Opposition MPs |

Hours after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that the suspension of 11 opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha would be revoked on the government’s request, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revoked their suspension allowing them to attend the Budget session. The Rajya Sabha Privileges Committee held 11 suspended opposition MPs guilty of breach of privilege and contempt of the Council of States.

The committee submitted the report to Dhankhar, acknowledging the circumstances that the suspended members would be unable to participate in the special address by President Droupadi Murmu to both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, marking the first address in the new Parliament building. In its report, submitted to the Rajya Sabha chairman a day before the session commences on Wednesday, the committee also proposed considering the duration of suspension already served by the members as an adequate penalty for the violation.

The MPs are Jebi Mather Hisham, L Hanumanthaiah, Neeraj Dangi, Rajmani Patel, Kumar Ketkar, G C Chandrashekhar, Binoy Viswam, Santhosh Kumar P, M Mohamed Abdulla, John Brittas and A A Rahim. The committee usually submits its recommendations to the House. The sources said the chairman invoked the authority vested in him under the rules of procedure to revoke their suspension enabling the members to attend the special address by the president.

The matter of 11 MPs suspended by the chairman during the Winter session of Parliament was referred to the Privileges Committee.
