Shakib Al Hasan: Defying Doubters with Willow Wizardry

As the Tigers took guard, whispers of Shakib’s perceived decline lingered in the air. Former Indian batting great Virender Sehwag had questioned the 37-year-old’s place in the T20 squad, claiming he should have retired from the format long ago. But Shakib, a man whose name is etched in

Bangladeshi cricketing folklore, had other plans.

With the willow in hand, he orchestrated a masterclass, compiling a sublime 64 off 46 deliveries, punctuated by nine boundaries that pierced the field with surgical precision. • Pakistan trolled heavily after USA produced a big upset in T20 World Cup | Cricket News

It will probably go down as one of the biggest upsets in cricket history as USA defeated Pakistan in their group stage fixture for the ongoing ICC T20 Cricket World Cup. USA made history as they are playing their first ever world cup and are also the hosts of the tournament. It came as a shock to cricket fans around the globe when the debutants defeated former champions Pakistan. The match went on till the super over where USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar got the better of Pakistani batters with his supreme bowling.

    Pakistan’s Collapse

Pakistan were the first to bat during the match, but they had to face challeneges at the hands of the USA bowlers. Pakistan saw a top order collapse and the scorecard could only be recovered due to valuable contributions from captain Babar Azam who scored 44 of 43 balls and Shabad Khan playing a quick fire knock of 40 in just 25 balls. Pakistan finished their batting at 159/7 giving USA a target of 160 to chase in 120 balls. USA’s chase of the targetted was headed by their captain Monak Patel who played a captain’s knock with a 38 ball 50. He was further supported by Aaron Jones who scored 36 and Nitish Kumar who scored 14. These scores helped USA take the match to the super over where USA set a target of 19 to chase and were able to restrict Pakistan to just 13 runs. After the match the USA captain had this to say- “It is a big achievement, beating Pakistan and that too playing (Pakistan) for the first time. It was a complete team effort. We won the toss and we made sure we utilised the conditions well, we did really well to keep them under 160. I am happy with my contribution and more happy that we won the game.”

Pakistan trolled after cricket world in shock

  • Who will partner Jasprit Bumrah at the World Cup? Glenn McGrath Asks Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid | Cricket News

As the T20 World Cup is underway in the Americas, there has been a lot of talk around India’s opening combination but none around who will be the bowling options which the managment and the coaching staff must address. The question arises who will be the partner for India’s top pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

    India’s Bowling Options

Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath feels that Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Starc are going to be the two top bowlers in the tournament who can be counted on to pick up wickets and rattle batters. In the case of Mitchell Starc, he has several bowling partners to pick up the wickets around him. This includes Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood. There is also the option of Mitchell Marsh who is a decent pace bowler in his own right. In the case of India, apart from Bumrah, India have Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Siraj as the two frontline fast bowlers. Apart from them there are also Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube who are fast bowling all rounders.

Glenn McGrath Weighs In On The Situation

Glenn McGrath has suggested that while Bumrah strikes fear into the opposition batters, there needs to be someone who is there to take the load off Bumrah.

“We saw Starc at the end of the IPL. He came into his own, which was good to see. Bumrah just seems to be the one bowler that batters find it hard, even in T20s, to get on top of. So, I think if Australia is to win this World Cup, Starc has to bowl well. A lot of it relies on him. And Bumrah for India, but then it is who’s going to take wickets around Bumrah and who’s going to bowl well around him,” McGrath said at the MRF Pace Foundation ground.

“You got Jasprit Bumrah. He showed just how good he is throughout the IPL. But it is like having a left-right opening combination for batters. It also depends on how they are bowling. In T20s, you do not have much time to be ready. If you take an over or two to warm up, the game is already over. If you have got a good opening-bowling combination, that is where you are going to win matches,” he added.

McGrath feels that Arshdeep could prove to be a better partner for Bumrah in comparison to Siraj during the tournament.

  • Shah Rukh Khan’s bold move, blank cheque offered to Gautam Gambhir amid BCCI’s pursuit for Team India’s coaching role: Report | Cricket News

    Gambhir’s Midas Touch

Much of KKR’s success can be attributed to the tactical genius of mentor Gautam Gambhir. The former Indian opener, who led KKR to their previous two IPL triumphs, has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the team’s ethos. His calm demeanor and astute decision-making proved invaluable throughout the tournament, culminating in a well-deserved victory.

    Rinku Singh: The Unlikely Hero

While star performers like Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana played their part, it was the unheralded Rinku Singh who truly stole the show. With KKR teetering at 89/5 in their pursuit of 174, the left-hander displayed nerves of steel, smashing an unbeaten 42 off just 28 deliveries to guide his team home.

    Cummins’ Valiant Effort in Vain

For SRH, Pat Cummins led from the front, both with the ball and the bat. The Australian spearhead claimed three crucial wickets before contributing a blistering 33 off just 18 balls. However, his efforts ultimately fell short as KKR held their nerve in the closing stages.

    Shah Rukh’s Unbridled Passion

As the winning runs were scored, the celebrations reached a crescendo, with Shah Rukh Khan leading the charge. The Bollywood superstar, known for his unwavering passion for the sport, was seen embracing Gambhir and the players, his joy evident for all to see. The victory not only cemented KKR’s status as one of the most successful IPL franchises but also underscored Shah Rukh’s deep commitment to the team.

    Tactical Masterclass from Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir’s influence on KKR’s fortunes cannot be overstated. From his shrewd team selections to his calculated bowling changes, the former India opener displayed a tactical acumen that kept his side ahead of the game. His ability to inspire and motivate his players was equally vital, as evidenced by the team’s resilience in the face of adversity.

  • USA Beat Bangladesh In 1st T20I To Take 1-0 Lead In Series | Cricket News

Riding high on Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh’s valiant effort, cricketing upstarts US pulled off a major upset, defeating Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the first T20I of the three-match series here at the Prairie View Cricket Complex. At a time the giants and recognized cricketing nations are gearing up for the highly-anticipated T20 World Cup, which is less than ten days away, the co-hosts of the marquee event pulled off an unprecedented victory over a decidedly stronger and much-fancied Bangladesh side.

After managing to keep Bangladesh to 153/6 in the first innings, the USA gave themselves a platform to bolster their chances of pulling off an upset. The opening pair of Steven Taylor and captain Monank Patel raced to 27 runs in the first three overs.

But Monank (12) got run out at the non-striker’s end. Andries Gous (23) arrived at the crease and scored runs at a brisk pace before losing his wicket to Rishad Hossain. Taylor (28) looked well set for an extended stay on the crease but Mustafizur Rahman got better of the batter.

As the promising-looking chase started to go astray in the middle overs, Anderson and Harmeet raised hopes of a win. Harmeet changed the complexion of the game with back-to-back sixes off Mustafizur in the 17th over.

In the 18th over, Shoriful Islam fell at the receiving end as Harmeet put on a boundary fest. A towering six on the second ball was followed by a boundary on the final delivery. With 14 runs in the over, the equation came down to 24 runs in the final two. Anderson took the mantle of finishing off the game with two sixes and a boundary in the next nine balls. His finishing touches sealed a 5-wicket win for the USA over Bangladesh.

Earlier in the innings, after winning the toss and putting Bangladesh to bat, it was a moderate performance from the visitors. A conservative approach in the powerplay, saw Bangladesh put 37/2 on board. Shakib Al Hasan struggled before getting run out.

Towhid Hridoy (58) starred with the bat on the back of his performance in the recently concluded Zimbabwe series. Mahmudullah led the attack in the death overs. But USA bowlers kept their line and length tight to restrict Bangladesh to 153/6.
