IMD issues alert regarding Cyclone Tej, it may turn into a severe cyclonic storm today

Cyclone Tej: This will be the second cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea this year. (Symbolic photo)

    New Delhi:

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the pressure over the south-east and south-west Arabian Sea has now transformed into Cyclone Tej. IMD has issued an alert regarding this. According to IMD, a pressure area has formed over west-central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to turn into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours (till the evening of 22 October).

Cyclone will cross Yemen-Oman coasts on October 25

The Meteorological Department has said that the cyclone will cross the Yemen-Oman coasts between Al Ghaida (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) around the morning of 25 October.

This is the second cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea this year.

Earlier, IMD had predicted this cyclonic storm to turn into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday and move towards the southern coasts of Oman and nearby Yemen. According to IMD, this will be the second cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea this year. According to the formula adopted for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean region, it will be called ‘Tej’.

Cyclonic storm may deviate from predicted path

However, meteorologists caution that sometimes storms can deviate from the predicted path, as was seen in the case of Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’. ‘Biparjoy’ formed in the Arabian Sea in June and initially moved in a north-westerly direction. After increasing, it passed towards Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan.

There is a possibility of the cyclone moving towards west-northwest direction.

IMD said that since the cyclone will move in a fast west-northwest direction, it may not have any impact on Gujarat (which is in the west). The weather will remain dry in Gujarat for the next seven days.
