  • PEKB mine of Rajasthan State Electricity Generation Corporation Limited created a new record in tree plantation, more than 11.50 lakh saplings have been planted by running the campaign.

Ambikapur. Parsa East Kanta Basan (PEKB), a five-star mine awarded by the Coal Ministry of Rajasthan State Electricity Generation Corporation Limited (RRVUNL), has set a new record in tree plantation. More than 11.50 lakh saplings have been planted in the reclaimed area of PEKB mine by October 2023 with a success rate of more than 90 percent. This is the largest tree plantation campaign ever undertaken in India’s mining industry.

Apart from this, PEKB mine has so far planted more than 2.10 lakh saplings under this campaign in the year 2023-24 under the guidance of the Forest Department, which has created a new record of planting many times more saplings as compared to the last 10 years. In this, unprecedented success has been achieved mainly in the regeneration of ‘Sal’ trees, which is a very difficult process. A new dense and mixed forest has been created by planting ‘Sal’ and other trees on more than 1100 acres of land. . Apart from this, successful transplantation of trees more than nine thousand years old has also been done with a special transplanter machine imported from Germany.

    Use of Miyawaki technique

Under this campaign of tree plantation, initially 84,000 saplings have been planted in an area of about three hectares to grow a dense forest using Miyawaki technique. One to one and a half feet tall saplings were planted 7 to 8 months ago, which have now grown to 4 to 6 feet tall depending on their species. Miyawaki technique is an excellent Japanese method of growing dense forests. Miyawaki Forest is grown through a special process in which 55% to 60% of the plants are planted from species native to the same area, so that it remains always green and becomes a dense forest. This special method of growing forest was discovered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, where in normal plantation, 2500 trees are planted in 1 hectare. With this technique, 30,000 to 35,000 trees are planted in 1 hectare. The above process is being implemented under the guidance of experts from the Horticulture Department of Guru Ghasidas Central University.

Raj Kumar Pandey, in-charge of the mine’s horticulture department, said, “Based on the successful experience here, nurseries of saplings of ‘Sal’ trees are being made in the mines of other states also. With the aim of maintaining the biodiversity of the area, a modern nursery has been built in the PEKB mine, where along with ‘Sal’, Saja, Beeja, Haldi, Mundi, Arjun, Mahua, Peepal, Banyan, Mango (Biju), Kumhi. , Many types of plants are prepared including Neem, Shisham, Bhelwa, Jackfruit, Shishu, and Jamun etc. “Approximately 3 lakh saplings are always available for planting in this nursery at any time of the year.”

Krishna Kumar Neti, a resident of Parsa village near PEKB mine, who has been working in the Horticulture Department here for the last 9 years, expressed his happiness and said, “We have been hearing since childhood that Sal trees should not be taken out of the forest. Can be grown. He did not believe it, yet in the beginning he kept bringing Sal seeds from the forest to prepare his nursery, but we were surprised when plants started growing in it and today after planting these plants in the land, now Trees of 20-20 feet height have been formed. We have seen with our own eyes the plants that we had planted with our own hands becoming trees, which have today grown and taken the form of a new forest.”

RRVUNL CMD RK Sharma, who recently visited Chhattisgarh, had told in a press conference that “Instead of cutting one tree, ten saplings have been planted. The Utpadan Nigam has already planted 4 lakh saplings here and all of them have developed into big trees and we have planted at least 39 lakh saplings in collaboration with the forest department. And whatever orders we get, we are not lagging behind. Afforestation and ecological balance is the need of the country, we should maintain it and the production corporation is making every possible effort for it. Along with this, the aim of PEKB mine is to create Harihar Chhattisgarh by planting more trees in the area in the coming years. do.

  • Controversy increases regarding ancient rare idol found in Arang: Protest against Collector’s order to hand it over to Jain community, demand to preserve the idol in Arang itself

Tukeshwar Lodhi, Raipur. Arang is called the city of temples in Chhattisgarh. Due to the ancient and rare statues and historical heritage found in Arang, the capital of King Mordhwaj, the identity of Arang is spread in the country. But for the last few days, something like this has been happening in Arang Nagar which has neither been seen nor heard of anywhere till now.

In fact, two years ago in September 2021, during the deepening of Andhiyar Khop pond of Arang, a statue resembling an ancient and rare Jain Tirthankara was found. Which has been preserved in Bhanddeval temple by the Archaeological Survey of India. Recently, the Jain community of Dongargarh had demanded the administration to take away this idol, on which the then Collector of Raipur Sarveshwar Bhure issued an order to hand over the idol to the Jain community of Dongargarh. But after the local people of Arang became aware of the order, the Collector’s order is being opposed.

Local residents of Arang allege that the ancient and rare idol found in the pond is being given to the Jain Trust of Rajnandgaon outside Arang due to administrative pressure. Many social organizations have also written letters to the concerned department opposing this order. People say that Arang is recognized because of the ancient statues, remains and historical heritage here. If this ancient idol goes away from here, then any society will demand the same and take away many idols from here. It is unfair to take away cultural heritage without the consent of the citizens.

    Know what historians say

Experts in history say that citing the provisions of the Nikhat Nidhi Act 1878, the Collector has issued an order to give this ancient idol to the Jain community for worship, whereas this Act does not provide any power to the Collector due to which They should give the archaeological heritage of the country to any person or society for worship. It is also wrong to transport heritage sites of archaeological importance. Local officials are avoiding saying anything on this matter. As far as possible, idols or objects of archaeological importance are kept at the same place from where they are found or in the nearest archaeological department’s museum for safety and conservation, but this is not happening in the case of Arang.

It is noteworthy that earlier also many ancient statues kept in Arang police station have been taken elsewhere, about which there is no confirmed information till date. If this sequence continues, question marks will be raised on the historicity of Arang itself. The residents of the city demand that the government should cancel the erroneous order of the Raipur Collector and take necessary steps to protect the heritage of Arang and build a museum in Arang itself.
