  • NRI sponsored quota controversy: On the last day of document verification, Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said – “The seats of those who do not get the verification done will be cancelled.”

Satya Rajput, Raipur. After the controversy over NRI sponsored quota in private medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, the scrutiny of documents started from October 19, of which today was the last day. Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that as per the instructions of the court, the documents of those students who have been allotted seats in NRI quota are being verified as per the rules. The entire situation will be clear only after the verification process and further action will be decided on the basis of the report.

Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal clarified, “No verification, no seat,” which means that if students of allotted seats are unable to get the document verification done, their seats will automatically be considered canceled after the stipulated deadline. He informed that as per NMC guidelines, if any seat remains vacant after verification, guidance will be taken from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for further recruitment process.

It is noteworthy that on September 24, the Supreme Court gave its decision against SLA (C) 22174/2024 Punjab and others in the Supreme Court. In this, calling MBBS NRI sponsored quota a fraud, it was said that only NRI students should be given admission on NRI quota. Even after this, second round counseling was held on NRI sponsored quota seats of private medical colleges of the state. Admission of 50 students also took place. On the other hand, on the basis of the order of the Supreme Court, the Directorate of Medical Education sought opinion from the Advocate General and then it was decided that the documents of the students admitted under NRI quota and the registered students should be verified.

103 seats for NRI in the state

At present five private medical colleges are operating in the state. There are 15 seats under NRI quota in the only college and 22 seats are earmarked in the remaining four. Till the second round of counselling, admission on 93 seats was completed, admission on the remaining 10 seats was to be given through mopup. After this, on Tuesday, October 15, an order was issued to postpone the allotment of the mopup round.

    vacant seats for general students

If NRI quota seat remains vacant in a private medical college during counselling, it will be allotted to successful general students on the basis of NEET. Its direct benefit will be given to those meritorious students of the state, who miss admission due to low marks.

There will be a ban on rigging

On the basis of old rules, the scam of selling MBBS seats for more than one crore rupees in the name of admission through NRI quota will stop after the implementation of this order. Till now, seats of this category were allotted based on the rules of the year 2018, the benefit of which was also availed by students who were ineligible.
