  • Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Google Doodle Celebrates 7th Phase Of Polling In India With Voting Symbol |

    New Delhi: The tech giant Google is celebrating the 7th and final phase of polling of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 with a special Google Doodle today on June 1, 2024. The India election-themed Google Doodle depicts a voter’s hand with electoral ink applied to the forefinger, a commonly used symbol of polling.

    Notably, Google has consistently celebrated similar doodles throughout the previous six phases of voting in India’s 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

    Users who click on the Doodle are directed to search results related to the latest updates on the ongoing 7th phase of the Lok Sabha Elections in India. As we know, the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections is currently underway, with voting being held in 57 constituencies across eight states and one union territory.

    This phase marks the conclusion of the general elections that commenced on April 19 and has already covered six phases and 486 Lok Sabha seats. The campaigning for the 7th phase of the Lok Sabha polls was completed on Thursday.

    During the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi attended over 200 campaign events like rallies and roadshows in 75 days. Meanwhile, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi participated in more than 100 rallies and public events. It is important to note that the Congress chief Kharge also held over 100 rallies, and 20 press conferences, and had over 70 interviews and media interactions.

    In the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections, 904 candidates are in the fray from these 57 constituencies, with over 10 crore people eligible to vote.

    New Delhi: Google Doodle Today is celebrating the festival of democracy that is Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in India. The doodle, which temporarily replaces the iconic “Google” logo on the search engine’s homepage, showing an uplifted index finger marked with indelible ink, capturing the essence of Indian elections.  

    Upon clicking, the tech giant Google directs the user to the search results related to the latest Lok Sabha elections 2024 updates. The fourth phase of voting in the Lok Sabha elections is taking place in 96 parliamentary constituencies in 9 states and 1 Union Territory. 

    To recall, the Google Doodle also celebrated with the inked finger icon were incorporated into the Google logo in the earlier phases which were held on April 19, April 26 and 7 May. Notably, the Google Doodle on the fourth phase of voting in General Elections will be visible only to people living in India.     These Google Doodles come in various formats, such as images, animations, slideshows, videos, and interactive games, providing users with a range of engaging experiences.  Over 19 lakh poll officials are stationed at 1.92 lakh polling booths to assist more than 17.7 crore voters including 8.73 crore females, who will exercise their franchise. 

    Prime Minister on his social media ‘X’ urged the eligible voters to perform their duty to strengthen the democracy.     He wrote, “In today’s 4th Phase of the Lok Sabha elections, 96 seats across 10 States and UTs are going to the polls. I am sure people in these constituencies will vote in large numbers and the young voters as well as women voters will power this surge in voting. Come, let’s all do our duty and strengthen our democracy!”

    New Delhi: Google paid tribute to India’s first professional female wrestler Hamida Banu through a striking and beautiful Doodle. The illustrated Doodle, crafted by Bengaluru-based artist Divya Negi, portrays the wrestler adorned in a pink, polka-dotted attire, holding her hands in a fighting position and surrounded by flora and fauna. 

    The tech giant has changed their homepage logo to celebrate the life of Hamida Banu who entered the sport that was dominated by the male population during the 1940s and 50s. India’s first professional female wrestler Hamida Banu, a name that stands out in the realm of Indian wrestling. 

    Google wrote that “On this day in 1954, the wrestling match that earned Banu international recognition and acclaim was reported – she had defeated famed wrestler, Baba Pahalwan, in just 1 minute and 34 seconds, after which the latter retired from professional wrestling”.

    Hamida Banu Birth And Wrestling Career: 

    She was born in the early 90s hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh. She grew up seeing wrestling as she was born into a family of wrestlers. During her captivating career, she won over 300 competitions between the 1940s and 1950s. 

    During the early 90s, women’s participation was strongly discouraged by prevalent social norms, however, by breaking all the shackles of patriarchy her success was the epitome of women’s empowerment.

    Hamida Banu Challenged To Male Wrestlers: 

    Bhanu gave an open challenge to the male wrestlers that the first one to defeat her would have her hand for marriage. Banu’s career extended into the international arena as well, where she won against a Russian woman wrestler Vera Chistilin in less than two minutes. 

    Known As Amazon of Aligarh:

    Banu was often called the “Amazon of Aligarh.” The bouts she won, her diet, and her training regimen were widely covered.Hamida Banu was a pioneer of wrestling of her time. Her courage is often remembered throughout India and across the world. Apart from her sporting accomplishments, Banu will always be celebrated for staying true to herself and choosing what she loved doing without looking at the social norms.

    Divya Negi, Who Crafted Google Doodle, Exploring Hamida’s World:

    Bengaluru-based artist Divya Negi who created the Google Doodle said she was inspired by Banu’s fight against conservative norms of the day. Artist Divya Negi said “I delved into Hamida’s world during my doodle research.

    She further said “It was inspiring to learn that she fought fiercely against the conservative norms of her time. Going against groupthink is one of the hardest things one can do, and being a woman adds another level of complexity to it. Despite that, Hamida powered through and won”. (With Inputs From ANI)

    New Delhi: Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the flat white coffee, a beloved beverage enjoyed by many worldwide. The doodle marks the anniversary of the addition of “flat white” to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2011, highlighting the cultural significance of this caffeinated delight.

    The origins of the flat white coffee have sparked a heated debate, with both Australia and New Zealand laying claim to its invention in the 1980s. However, the true origin remains uncertain, and it is probable that the flat white developed independently in both countries.     ”Today’s animated Doodle celebrates the flat white, a beloved coffee drink of steamed milk poured over a shot of espresso. Many speculate the drink was first served in Australia and New Zealand during the 1980s when the drink popped up on menus in Sydney and Auckland around the same time,” Google wrote on its website.     Furthermore, the company added “Coffee culture has changed a lot over the years and so have ways to make the flat white. Made with whole milk back in the day, today it’s common to see Aussies and Kiwis ordering it with plant-based milk — oat milk is a rising favourite!”.

    Explaining further about the beverage, Google wrote, “Traditionally served in a ceramic cup, a flat white is made up of an espresso shot topped with steamed milk and a thin layer of microfoam. Being “flatter” than a cappuccino or latte, flat whites are popular with coffee connoisseurs who are looking for less foam. Often, baristas will show off their skills and create beautiful artwork with the pour, something that’s a common sight in many cafes across Australia and New Zealand.”

    Google explained that a flat white is a coffee served in a ceramic cup, consisting of an espresso shot topped with steamed milk and a thin layer of microfoam. Unlike cappuccinos or lattes, flat whites have less foam, making them appealing to coffee enthusiasts who prefer a smoother texture. Baristas often display their talent by creating artistic designs with the milk pour, a common practice in cafes throughout Australia and New Zealand.

    What sets apart a flat white from a latte?

    A flat white and a latte, despite both being espresso-based drinks have distinct differences. One key contrast is their size. The preferred serving size for a flat white is a 160-165ml tulip cup, which is considerably smaller than the glass typically used for lattes and cappuccinos, as stated on Nescafe’s official website.
