  • Inzamam-ul-Haq accuses ICC of favouring India team in T20 World Cup 2024 | Cricket News

In the whirlwind of the T20 World Cup 2024, controversy has once again found its place, this time courtesy of cricketing legend Inzamam-ul-Haq. Known for his outspoken nature, Inzamam has launched a scathing critique aimed squarely at the Indian cricket establishment and the International Cricket Council (ICC) itself. His latest salvo takes aim at what he perceives as preferential treatment for India, highlighting discrepancies in tournament scheduling and alleged benefits that he claims have tilted the playing field.

“There is no reserve day in the match between India and England, because if India is on top of the table then it will go to the final”

“When PAK was in strong position in Asia Cup, reserve day was given just for one match”

    “It’s not Big3, it’s just Big1”

    The Unfolding Drama

The saga began with Inzamam’s pointed accusation of possible ball tampering by Team India during their Super 8 game against Australia, as Arshdeep Singh was able to generate reverse swing as early as the 15th over. India captain Rohit Sharma firmly refuted the allegations, urging Inzamam to look at things with an “open mind.”

    Scheduling shenanigans?

Inzamam’s latest volley takes aim at the T20 World Cup’s scheduling decisions, particularly regarding India’s path to the semi-finals. His central grievance revolves around the absence of a reserve day for India’s semi-final match against England, contrasting sharply with other semi-final fixtures. Inzamam argues that this disparity underscores a pattern of favoritism towards India, suggesting that such decisions undermine the tournament’s integrity.

Inzamam said, “If you see the two semi-finals, only the India-England game does not have a reserve day. That’s because, India have won all of their games and they will qualify to the final if the game is abandoned.” “There are different rules for each match!” said Inzamam.

  • 'This Is Clownery..': Social Media Furious After Ben Stokes' Ball To Dismiss Rohit Sharma Hailed By British Media As 'The Best In Series' | cricket news

Ben Stokes decided it was enough waiting for the first ball in eight months. Wickets were hard to come by in Dharamsala and despite no nod from the team's physio, Stokes felt he needed to lead from the front and bowl a few overs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's partnership had already pushed England on back foot on day 2 of the fifth and last Test. England were desperate for a breakthrough and not many had expected that Stokes would provide that so soon.

The first delivery in 251 days from Stokes landed outside off at good length. It held its line before shaping away ever-so-slightly to hit the off. Rohit could not do much about it. That was a peach from one of cricket's greatest all-rounders. Rohit had a smile on his face as he walked back. He knew he had been done by an excellent delivery and he needed not regret the dismissal.

Stokes was happy but he stopped himself from celebrating it in an animated way. However, his teammates were maybe impressed. Mark Wood had his hand off his head and a big shock on his face. Stokes bowled the first ball in 251 days and it worked. It cleaned up a batter who had faced over 160 deliveries and never looked like getting out.

The social media was soon abuzz with reactions to Stokes. While many hailed Stokes for being a great leader and risking his injury to come and deliver the goods, many went on to call the delivery the best in the series. BCC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew went on to compare Stokes first-ball wicket to that Ian Botham's first-ball wicket after he came back from 63-day drugs suspension.

“Ben Stokes provided an Ian Botham moment of scene-stealing drama to announce his return…,” wrote Telegraph's Nick Hoult.

Stokes, who is going through a lean patch as batsman, began to get massive praise for this one ball. This was not appreciated by many Indian fans on social media, who reminded the world that Bumrah had bowled a screamer to Ollie Pope not long ago. Another Twitter user and a fan said that sports website talkSport called Stokes' delivery to Rohit as the ball of the series. That user ranted, “Last piece of rant for today..TalkSport called Stokes ball as the best ball of the series. I mean..Bumrah literally had stokes cleaned up in Hyderabad and then Pope in Vizag. These are just two of so many I can put across here. This is beyond delusion..this is clownery.”

  • IND vs ENG 5th Test: Despite Five-Wicket Haul, Kuldeep Yadav Wanted R Ashwin To Keep The Ball As Memento; Here's What Off-Spinner Did, His Gesture Goes Viral | cricket news

In his 100th Test appearance, Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his class by claiming four crucial wickets, playing a pivotal role in India's dismissal of England for 218 on the opening day of the fifth Test. However, Ashwin's impressive figures of 4/51 were overshadowed by his young spin counterpart, Kuldeep Yadav, who delivered a standout performance with a five-wicket haul – his third in his career. Kuldeep's remarkable feat spurred on an England collapse, as they lost 7 wickets for just 43 runs, highlighting his significance in India's bowling attack.

As the final wicket fell, with James Anderson dismissed for a duck caught by Ashwin, a heartwarming moment unfolded on the field. Despite the recognition of his own achievement – picking up four wickets in his 100th Test – Ashwin displayed a selfless gesture towards Kuldeep that resonated with fans. While Mohammed Siraj and other teammates sought to hand the ball over to Ashwin, he insisted that the honor should go to Kuldeep, acknowledging the young spinner's stellar performance. It was a touching display of camaraderie and sportsmanship that left a lasting impression. India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal's onslaught allowed India to exercise control on Day one of the final Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, on Thursday.

At the end of the day's play, India were 135/1, trailing by 83 runs with Rohit and Shubman Gill unbeaten with scores of 52* and 26* respectively. England were bowled out for 218 in their first innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin cleared off England's tail end after Kuldeep Yadav struck vital blows taking five wickets for 72 runs in the picturesque stadium. Rohit struck boundaries and put pressure on England bowlers in the company of Yashashvi Jaiswal. The two struck a 104-run partnership for the first wicket. Jaiswal raced to his half-century in 55 balls with a delightful boundary in the 21st over.

With a slog sweep, Jasiwal once again picked up a boundary showing no signs of stopping. After conceding back-to-back boundaries, Shoaib Bashir struck on the next delivery, deceived the southpaw to get him stumped on a score of 57(58). On his way back to the pavilion, Jaiswal was greeted by a stare from the 20-year-old spinner.

The end of the 104-run opening partnership brought Shubman Gill to the crease. The 24-year-old stitched a 31-run unbeaten stand to ensure India didn't lose any further wickets. England started the post-Lunch session at 100/2, with Crawley (1* in 71 balls, with nine fours and a six) unbeaten at the crease.

Root and Crawley attacked pacer Jasprit Bumrah with some solid shots. Kuldeep Yadav landed India their breakthrough as he bowled Crawley for 79 (108 balls, with 11 fours and a six). England were 137/3.

With the help of a four by Jonny Bairstow on a Ravindra Jadeja delivery, England reached the 150-run mark in 41 overs. Kuldeep continued to run through the English middle-order, removing Bairstow for 29. The batter's counterattacking knock had two fours and two sixes and he was caught by Dhruv Jurel. England were 175/4.

Indian spinners were all over England, with Ravindra Jadeja trapping Root leg-before-wicket for 26 reducing the visitors to 175/5. Kuldeep got his five-wicket haul as he removed England skipper Ben Stokes for a duck.

Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his 100th Test, joined the party as well, with wickets of Tom Hartley (6) and Mark Wood (0). England had two wickets in hand at Tea and were a few runs away from the 200-run mark.

Kuldeep (5/72) was the pick of the bowlers for India. Ashwin (2/39) also backed the high-flying Chinaman spinner, while, Jadeja also took a wicket. England began well with an attacking half-century by opener Zak Crawley. His half-century partnership with Ben Duckett helped England.

During the first ten overs, England were cautious with Crawley being the aggressor. Duckett struggled to get more boundaries and played a very unusual defensive game. England scored just 35 runs in their first ten overs.

Duckett's sweep shot on a delivery by Ravichandran Ashwin took England to a 50-run mark in 14.2 overs. England reached the 100-run mark in 25.1 overs. As Pope and Crawley were cruising along, the former was dismissed by Kuldeep, with Dhruv Jurel pulling off a brilliant stumping. England were 100/2 in 25.3 overs at the end of the first session.

Brief Scores: England: 218 (Zak Crawley 79, Jonny Bairstow 29, Kuldeep Yadav 5/72) vs India 135/1 (Rohit Sharma 52*, Yashasvi Jaiswal 57; Shoaib Bashir 1-64).

  • IND vs ENG 5th Test: Rohit Sharma Makes Big Statement On Playing 11 As Rajat Patidar Is Likely To Play In Dharamsala

Speaking on Ashwin's contribution to Indian cricket as the spinner is set to play his 100th Test in Dharamsala, Rohit said that no praise is enough to sum up his importance.

  • India Vs England 5th Test Playing 11s: Will KL Rahul And Jasprit Bumrah Return For Dharamsala Test? What We Know So Far | cricket news

India’s wicketkeeper and batsman KL Rahul played just one Test before he was ruled out of the second due to an issue in his quadriceps. He was rested in Visakhapatnam but even after a long gap before the Rajkot game, Rahul was only at 90 percent fitness and BCCI didn’t risk including him in the squad. He has not attained full fitness yet and also missed the Ranchi Test. As per a new report on Cricbuzz, Rahul’s participation in Dharamsala is still unclear as the batsman has flown to London for an expert opinion on his injury.

Rahul is still feeling pain in his right quadriceps for which he had undergone a surgery in London. He made his comeback in Asia Cup 2023 after which he successfully played in the ODI World Cup and in South Africa. But the pain is back and BCCI as well as National Croquet Academy (NCA) don’t want to take any risks with him as the cricketer is of utmost importance to them.

With India already 3-1 up in the series, BCCI might not want to take any risk with a 90 percent fit Rahul. It has also been reported that one more batter and one bowler might be rested in Dharamsala as BCCI looks to manage workload of players.

The good news for Jasprit Bumrah fans is that he is likely to return for the Dharamshala Test. This is the ground which offers assistance to the Pacers and for the first time in the series we might get to see three paces in both the playing 11s.

Coming back to Rahul, he also leads Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The fact that he is very close to regaining full fitness means Rahul is certain to play IPL 2024. Even if he misses the first few games, he should be able to get back to LSG midway through the season.

As far as England are concerned, they are unlikely to make massive changes to the playing 11 knowing they would want to finish the series on a high note, going back with a 3-2 scoreline rather than 4-1. One change that may want to make is including Dan Lawrence in place of Jonny Bairstow. Lawrence has been warming the bench so far and with Bairstow in such a poor form, Lawrence can be tried at the No 5 slot. Knowing fast-paced nature of Dharamsala pitch, we might also see three pacers also in England XI in the form of James Anderson, Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson. As per report, England and India are set to fly to Dharamsala on March 2.

India’s playing 11 for 5th Test Vs England may look like this: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal (Devdutt Padikkal), Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Axar Patel/Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj

England probable playing 11: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow/Dan Lawrence, Ben Stokes, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson

  • ‘Grit, Determination, Resilience’: Virat Kohli Reacts To India Ending Bazball’s Winning Streak With Series Victory In Ranchi | cricket news

India beat England in the fourth Test in Ranchi to claim five-match series 3-1, all thanks to an all-round performance by the team. The best thing about this victory, yet again, was the resilience shown by the youngsters as Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill rose to the occasion when chips were down during the chase. India were 120 for 5, with 70-odd still required and with 5 sessions to go in the match. It was a matter of batting well in just one session to guide India to win and this is exactly what they did, taking the hosts to win with 5 wickets in hand.

After lunch on Day when Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan fell to back to back deliveries from Shoaib Bashir, it appeared as if this was England’s day. But Jurel and Gill put on a rock-solid show to deny English any wicket and got the win. Jurel, especially, batted with a lot of maturity that is rare to see in someone who is just 2 Test matches old. He rotated strike and gave Gill a breather at the other end. Gill finished with an unbeaten 52 off 124 balls that included just two sixes, and those two were also scored at te very end.

Virat Kohli, who decided to skip the series because of birth of his second child with wife Anushka Sharma, acknowledged the effort put in by the youngsters and the whole team. He did not waste too much time to take his thoughts to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “YES. Phenomenal series win by our young team. Showed grit, determination and resilience.”

    The Showdown: Jaiswal vs. Anderson

As the match entered a crucial phase, with India looking to consolidate their position, James Anderson, England’s premier fast bowler, took the ball in hand to stem the flow of runs. However, what followed was a display of sheer audacity from the young Indian opener. With exquisite timing and immense power, Jaiswal dispatched Anderson’s deliveries with disdain, lofting them effortlessly beyond the boundary ropes for three consecutive sixes.

    Historic Feat

Jaiswal’s assault on Anderson not only showcased his remarkable talent but also etched his name in the annals of cricketing history. The young prodigy’s ability to take on one of the greatest bowlers of all time speaks volumes about his temperament and fearless approach to the game.

  • WATCH: Sarfaraz Khan’s Wife Romana Zahoor Sends Flying Kisses To Hubby After He Hits Maiden Test Fifty In 3rd Test Vs England | cricket news

Sarfaraz Khan smashed a fifty in his maiden innings in international cricket with the family in attendance. Coming in to bat at number 6, the Mumbai batter looked confident against the spinners and did not face any issue whatsoever. He batted with a strike rate of almost 94, showing an aggressive intent right from the time he arrived at the crease.

Had the calling been better between Jadeja and Sarfaraz, we could have seen a hundred from the talented batsman in only his first innings. It could have helped India a lot in the long run in this Test. India captain Rohit Sharma was very angry to see the run out and threw his cap on the ground in an act of extreme anger. He could see Sarfaraz loading a special knock and was devastated to see him get out like that.

When Sarfaraz completed his fifty in no time, there was a lovely moment that took place at the stadium. Sarfaraz’s father Naushad and wife Romana Zahoor were there in the stands to watch the opening day of the match. When the batsman reached his fifty, he raised his bat to celebrate. His family was celebrating his milestone in the stands as they stood up and clapped. Wife Romana could not control her happiness and sent flying kisses to Sarfaraz which was caught on camera.

Emotional scenes were seen before the start of the match as well when Sarfaraz got the Test cap. He got it from Indian bowling legend Anil Kumble and the first thing he did after receiving it and hugging his teammates was run to his family to show them the cap.

His father touched it with tears in his eyes as he had waited too long to see this day. Romana too had tears in her eyes as Sarfaraz looked to wipe them. The three hugged each other before the cricketer went back to join his team in the dressing room.

Sarfaraz has waited a long time to make his India debut. His teammates from U19 World Cup 2016 – Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Khaleel Ahmed, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan – played international cricket way before him. Sarfaraz did not lose hope despite scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket. His time came when KL Rahul got injured ahead of the 2nd Test in this series and when he failed to recover from it even for the third Test, Sarfaraz’s dream came true as he got the India cap.

  • Big Blow To England Ahead Of 3rd Test Vs India As Jack Leach Ruled Out Of Series Due To Injury IND Vs ENG | cricket news

England’s spinner Jack Leach has suffered a left knee injury, forcing him to withdraw from the remainder of the England Men’s Test tour of India. The injury occurred during England’s triumph in the first Test in Hyderabad, leading to his absence in the second Test in Vizag. Leach will depart from Abu Dhabi within the next day, where the England team has been stationed ahead of the upcoming third Test in Rajkot, scheduled to commence on Thursday. He will undergo rehabilitation under the guidance of both the England and Somerset medical teams.

Regrettably, England have decided against summoning a replacement for Leach, opting to proceed with the current squad. This setback is undoubtedly disappointing for both Leach and the team, given his contributions to England’s bowling attack. However, his health and recovery are paramount, and the focus now shifts to ensuring his swift and complete rehabilitation. The absence of Leach will necessitate adjustments in England’s strategy for the remaining matches, with the team likely to rely on alternative bowling options to fill the void left by his absence.

Leach had missed out on 2nd Test as well due to the injury, making way for Shoaib Bashir, the right-arm off spinner who made his debut in Visakhapatnam. With injury to Leach and no replacement announced for him, it seems Bashir will continue to feature in the playing 11 for England in this long series.

A statement from the ECB read: “He will fly home from Abu Dhabi in the next 24 hours, where the England team have been staying ahead of the third Test in Rajkot, which starts on Thursday.”Leach will work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation.”

England’s inexperienced pace attack of Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley and Bashir – who have 6 Tests among them – will face a tough task to do well against Indians. But it is also true that these three showed great maturity in Vizag, helping England pick all ten wickets in both the innings.

England updated squad for remaining Tests v India: Ben Stokes (captain), Rehan Ahmed, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper), Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, Ollie Pope , Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood.
