New Delhi: INDIA bloc leaders chaired a meeting on Thursday at Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi. The senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said that the alliance has discussed about strategies and now the opposition is in attacking mode towards the government.
A meeting of INDIA bloc leaders was held at the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the opposition’s strategy for the remaining session.
“We discussed on our strategies for the remaining four days. There will be a ‘motion of thanks’ following the President’s address. We also discussed that. Today, we talked about multiple issues including how the speaker of the Lok Sabha was elected and the President’s joint address”, Ramesh said, ANI reported.
Congress leader further said that the opposition will be in attacking mode.
“The opposition will be in attacking mode. The mandate of the Lok Sabha polls is a personal, political and moral defeat of the Prime Minister. The opposition will remind him of this every day”, he said.
Several prominent leaders were also in the meeting including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and Gaurav Gogoi, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party Hanuman Beniwal, DMK MP T Siva, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.
While speaking about the key meeting, DMK MP T Siva said, “We will give notices (in Parliament) on the NEET issue tomorrow.”
After attending the opposition meeting at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also said that we will raise the voice in parliament against all the issues burning in the country.
New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) sought factual information from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday on his claim that Home Minister Amit Shah has called up 150 district magistrates and collectors ahead of the June 4 counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls. In a letter to Ramesh, the poll panel has asked him to share details regarding his claim by 7 pm on Sunday.
The EC has referred to his post on X on June 1, in which the Congress general secretary had alleged that “the outgoing Home Minister has been calling up DMs/Collectors. So far, he has spoken to 150 of them. This is blatant and brazen intimidation, showing how desperate the BJP is….”
The process of counting votes is a sacred duty cast upon every returning officer and such public statements “tend to put an element of doubt and thus, deserves to be addressed in larger public interest”, the EC has told Ramesh.
It has also told the Congress leader that when the Model Code of Conduct is in force, all officers are under the deemed deputation of the commission and they report directly to the poll watchdog for any directions.
“However, no DM has reported any such undue influence as alleged by you…,” the EC’s letter to Ramesh has stated.
“It is requested that details of 150 DMs to whom such calls have been allegedly made by the Home Minister along with the factual matrix/basis of your information are shared by 7 pm today — June 2, 2024, so that appropriate action can be taken,” it has told the Congress leader.
It has said that being a responsible, experienced and very senior leader of a national party, Ramesh must have made such a public statement ahead of the counting day on the basis of facts or information he believes to be true.
New Delhi: Congress launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and alleged that he wants to divert the country’s attention from the issues and the 10 years of injustice under his government.
Congress’ statements come after PM Modi slammed the party over its Manifesto and said it reflects that the party’s thinking resembles those of the Muslim League during the pre-Independence period.
Hitting out PM, Congress general secretary and MP Jairam Ramesh said that PM Modi never talks about the issues of the public and with his Muslim league remarks he wants to divert the public’s attention from real issues.
“The Prime Minister never talks about the public; he wants to divert attention from what the public issues, farmers’ issues, youth issues, women’s issues, and workers’ issues are, which is the reality of the 10 years of injustice,” said Ramesh.

“They gave a clean chit to China and because of that clean chit, we have become weak today. The Prime Minister says that Congress adopted the policy of the Muslim League, let me remind the Prime Minister, in 1940, 1941 and 42, which person, which party, was in the coalition government with the Muslim League, in Bengal,” he added.
“Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was the founder of the Jana Sangh, was the President of the Hindu Mahasabha and he formed a coalition government with the Muslim League. In Bengal, in Sindh and the Northwest Frontier Province, there was an alliance between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League,” Jairam said.
“Today, if we talk about Congress, they always adopt divisive politics and the Prime Minister is ready to encourage social polarization on any issue,” he added.
Congress manifesto was released at the party headquarters by party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Friday.
Earlier today addressing the rally in Pushkar PM Modi slammed Congress’ manifesto and said that the party’s manifesto is a “bundle of lies” and every page of the document reeks of attempts to “tear India apart.”
“Yesterday the Congress Party released its manifesto, a bundle of lies. Every page of this smells of breaking India into pieces. The same thinking is reflected in the Congress manifesto as was present in the Muslim League at the time of independence. Congress wants to impose the views of the Muslim League of that time on India today,” PM Modi said.
New Delhi: Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, took a dig at the BJP regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Speaking to ANI, Ramesh said, “The arrest of Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and Delhi Chief Minister is an attack on democracy and our constitution.”
“This is politics of revenge at play. The BJP is afraid of the INDIA alliance. This is an attack on democracy and our constitution,” the Congress leader further said. Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said there is only one thought in the PM’s mind- ‘One Nation No Election’.
“There is only one thought in the Prime Minister’s mind-‘One Nation, No Election’… The entire country is in OPD-One Person Dictatorship,” he added.
Arvind Kejriwal Arrest
Ramesh criticized the arrest of both Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal, labeling it as an assault on democracy and the constitution. The leader also emphasizes that it reflects vindictive politics. He accused the BJP of fearing the INDIA bloc and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged desire for centralization of power, summing it up as ‘One Nation, No Election’.
Meanwhile, Virendraa Sachdeva, the BJP’s Delhi president, assured that the truth regarding Kejriwal’s alleged involvement in the liquor scam would surface soon. The Delhi court recently sent Kejriwal to ED custody until March 28 in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy case, with the probe agency claiming Kejriwal’s pivotal role in soliciting kickbacks from businessmen and shaping the excise policy.
Despite opposition from Kejriwal’s legal counsel, the court ruled in favor of ED’s plea for custody. Kejriwal’s arrest follows the arrests of other AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, in the same case.
Nitish Kumar today resigned as the Chief Minister of the Mahagathbandhan alliance and got the Bihar government dissolved via Governor Rajendra Arlekar. Talking to the media after tendering his resignation, Kumar said that he quit the INDIA bloc as all was not well within the alliance. In his first reaction to the political turmoil, Kumar said the state of affairs in the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) formed one and a half years ago was ‘not good’.
“I resigned as chief minister and requested the Governor to dissolve the government. The situation came to this pass as the state of affairs within the ruling alliance in Bihar wasn’t good. I sought the advice and opinions of everyone before coming to this decision. I took all opinions and suggestions to heart. The government is being dissolved today,” Nitish told reporters on Sunday.
He said that the alliance that was formed one and a half years ago, was sailing through choppy waters. “Though we came together on the basis of a common minimum programme and promises to the people, we failed to live up to expectations and discharge our salient duties. Eventually, we fell out and even stopped being on speaking terms. I was left with no option but to sever all ties with the alliance,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Congress compared Kumar with a chameleon for his frequent switchovers. “Nitish Kumar, who frequently changes political partners, is giving tough competition to the chameleons in changing colours. The people of Bihar will not forgive the experts of this betrayal and those who made them dance to their tune. It is quite clear that the Prime Minister and the BJP are scared of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and this political drama has been created to divert attention from it,” said Jairam Ramesh.

Earlier today, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that he talked with Lalu Yadav on the issue. “Earlier he and us were fighting together. When I talked to Lalu Ji and Tejashwi, they also said that Nitish is going. If he wanted to stay, he would have stayed but he wants to go. That’s why we already knew this, but to keep the India Alliance intact, if we say something wrong, the wrong message will be sent. This information was already given to us by Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav. Today that came true. There are many people in the country like ‘Aaya Ram-Gaya Ram’,” Kharge said.
Chhattisgarh election, Amit Shah: The Election Commission has announced the date of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. Voting is to be held in two phases in the state on November 7 and 17. Congress on Monday accused Home Minister Amit Shah of making inflammatory statements in an election rally in Chhattisgarh. Besides, the Election Commission has also been demanded to take action against Amit Shah.
Congress Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also alleged that after BJP’s defeat in Chhattisgarh seems certain, Amit Shah now wants to resort to communalism. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that if the Congress comes back to power in Chhattisgarh after the assembly elections next month, it will continue the politics of ‘appeasement’ and ‘vote bank’.
Addressing a rally in Rajnandgaon city, Amit Shah mentioned the murder case of a youth named Bhuvaneshwar Sahu. Sahu was murdered by some people from another community in April this year. BJP has given ticket to Bhuvaneshwar Sahu’s father Ishwar Sahu in this assembly elections.
Pointing towards Ishwar Sahu, who was present on the stage during the election rally, Shah said that Bhuvneshwar Sahu was murdered for vote bank and appeasement. He said, ‘We will punish the murderer of Bhuvaneshwar Sahu. We have given the ticket to his father.
Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’ regarding this statement of the Home Minister, ‘Home Minister of the country Amit Shah has given a very provocative statement in Chhattisgarh.’ According to Ramesh, the Home Minister directly said in his election rally regarding a murder case that ‘Bhupesh Baghel government, for appeasement and vote bank politics, lynched Chhattisgarh’s son Bhuvneshwar Sahu. Bharatiya Janata Party has decided that we will bring the murderers of Bhuvaneshwar Sahu to justice and as a symbol of this, he has fielded his father Ishwar Sahu.
The Congress leader alleged, ‘This statement of Amit Shah is not only objectionable but its only purpose is to incite communal violence in the peaceful state of Chhattisgarh. The Home Minister has given this statement to incite frenzy with the intention of electoral gains. He claimed, ‘What the Home Minister has said is absolutely false. The reality is that in this case of violence and counter-violence, the government had taken prompt action and arrested the accused and sent them to jail. But Amit Shah, frustrated by his clearly visible defeat in Chhattisgarh, now wants to take the help of communalism.
Jairam Ramesh said, ‘Now the first responsibility in this matter under the code of conduct lies directly with the Election Commission. He should take cognizance of this inflammatory statement and take appropriate action by registering a case against Amit Shah. If this does not happen, there is a possibility that BJP will not desist from spreading communalism in its election campaign in Chhattisgarh in future also.

What did Kharge say on the Women’s Reservation Bill?
congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Said, we have always supported the Women’s Reservation Bill. In 2010, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government got the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha. Just as SC-ST category has got constitutional opportunity in politics, similarly women of OBC category should also get equal opportunity through this bill. He alleged that the bill brought by the Modi government today needs to be looked at carefully. In the current draft of the bill, it is written that it will be implemented only after census and delimitation. This means, Modi government has probably closed the doors of women’s reservation till 2029.
What did Jairam Ramesh say on the women’s reservation bill?
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’, ‘In this season of election puns, this is the biggest of all the puns!’ This is a huge betrayal of the hopes of crores of Indian women and girls. As we reported earlier, the Modi government has not yet conducted the decennial census of 2021, making India the only country in the G20 that has failed to conduct the census. He said, now it has been said that after the Women’s Reservation Bill becomes an Act, reservation for women will be implemented only after the first decennial census. According to him, the bill also states that reservation will be effective only after the publication of the next census and the subsequent delimitation process. Will census and delimitation be done before 2024 elections?
Congress calls women’s reservation bill ‘EVM-event management’
The Congress leader alleged that basically this bill is in the news today with a very vague promise of its implementation date. This is nothing but ‘EVM-Event Management’.
Nitish Kumar welcomed the bill
Bihar Chief Minister and top leader of Janata Dal (United) Nitish Kumar welcomed the bill and said that if caste census had been conducted, the system of reservation for women from backward and extremely backward classes could have been implemented immediately. He posted on ‘X’, it has been said in the bill that first there will be a census and then there will be delimitation of constituencies and only after that the provisions of this bill will come into force. For this, the census work should be completed soon. The census should have been done in the year 2021 itself, but it has not been done yet. Along with the census, caste census should also be conducted, only then women will get its true benefits.
What did Manoj Jha say on women’s reservation?
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Jha said, if the idea behind the Women’s Reservation Bill was to ensure wider representation to women, then it could not have happened without reaching out to SC, ST and OBC women. He claimed that in many ways this was a betrayal by a government that had completely lost credibility.
Bill fooling women, AAP alleges

He said, we demand that the provisions of delimitation and census should be removed and women reservation should be implemented for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

After the Women’s Reservation Bill was presented in Parliament, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav said, women’s reservation should be a balance of gender justice and social justice.
