  • Exclusive | Pakistan Voting Against Jay Shah Will Have Implications: Danish Kaneria | cricket news

Bangladesh recently scripted test history by outplaying Pakistan 2-0 series, recording a comprehensive victory by restricting the hosts to 172 in the second innings of the second Test. The Bangla Tigers achieved the target of 185 with four wickets remaining, finishing their series victory in style. A lot of fans and former cricketers castigated the Pakistan team for their below-average performance against Bangladesh. In the list of unhappy former cricketers, one name that stood out the most was Danish Kaneria who has taken 261 wickets in Test for Pakistan and was one of the crafty leg spinners the world has ever seen.

In an exclusive conversation with ZEE News, Kaneria highlighted the reasons why Pakistan lost against Bangladesh. He also spoke about the current scenario of the Pakistan team.

“This discussion has been going on for the past fortnight the way Bangladesh defeated Pakistan on their home soil is very shameful. Pakistan has given so many star players over a while but the way they got outplayed by Bangladesh is disgraceful. Bangladesh batted well, bowled well and their team selection was also good. They came up with a proper plan and executed it in a sleek manner. Pakistan team failed to exploit their home conditions and they looked clueless against Bangladesh that too on their home soil. This is the sheer downfall of Pakistan cricket.”

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria did not mince his words and bluntly targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board for spoiling the cricketing ecosystem. He feels the system is responsible for everything.

“I think we should not blame players, it is the system that has been failing time and again and as a result, Pakistan cricket is going down. Pakistan Cricket Board is only focusing towards PSL rather they should take domestic cricket seriously. They have made Test cricket secondary. Their downfall started when they removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy, he was a perfect skipper. There has been a lot of politics going on in the Pakistan Cricket Board and as a result, the aura, and the ambiance of the team have been pathetic”, Kaneria said.

Kaneria said that the ongoing politics and people with vested interests have spoiled Pakistan cricket. “They told Shaheen that he is the biggest bowler and without him, it’s not possible for them to win matches. Talking about Shan Masood, as a player it’s difficult for him to get a place in the playing XI. He has not been consistent with the bat over the years and you made him the captain. They asked Shaheen to take up the captaincy and later removed him. If we lose a series then we will make a pure playing XI captain, Shaan Masood needs to go back to domestic cricket, learn how to do captaincy and then come back to play for the national side. Kaneria added.

Kaneria also shared his school of thoughts on the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi. According to Kaneria, Naqvi does not deserve to hold the post. He dissected his statements by referring to former PCB chairmen.

“The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi does not deserve to hold the post. When I used to play for Pakistan, I saw chairmen who had a great vision of uplifting Pakistan cricket. Arif Ali Khan Abbasi who used to head the Pakistan Cricket Board was a great administrator. He used to handle the team in a smooth manner. You should select someone as the chairman who at least knows about cricket”, the 43-year-old told ZEE News.

The former Pakistan spinner reckons that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan to take part in the upcoming Champions Trophy. He said there are a lot of security concerns plus the infrastructure and facilities are not there to organize the Champions Trophy.

“The Indian team will not go to Pakistan and they should not. There are a lot of security concerns. As per the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, the grounds are getting ready for the Champions Trophy which clearly states that currently, Pakistan does not have that infrastructure. See, the Indian team is one of the top tier teams across the world, why would they come to such a country that does not have even peeper international facilities?”

Over a while, a lot of news and reports have surfaced which said that the Hindus of Pakistan are forced to convert to Islam. A lot of temples have been destroyed by the locals in Pakistan to torment Hindus. After being asked about the same, Kaneria agreed and said, “Yes, it happens. These are the reasons why India does not go to Pakistan. The conversion rate is way too high there. Pakistan needs to respect Hindus and other religions. A lot of temples in Pakistan have been sabotaged. If Pakistan wants to do well, they will have to get rid of their egos, they need to talk to BCCI on a friendly note. As of now, Pakistan always looks for topics to fight with India and this is not healthy at all.”

Danish Kaneria praised BCCI Secretary and the newly made ICC Chairman, Jay Shah for his impeccable work with the Indian cricket. “Jay Shah has been doing a tremendous job with Indian cricket. The way he has evolved domestic cricket is commendable and this is the reason why he has been made the ICC chairman. There are a total of 16 members and 15 of them have voted for Jay Shah. Pakistan did not vote in Jay Shah’s favor and it will not make any difference to him. Pakistan should have voted for him in order to show that they want to have a healthy relationship with India. They are egoistic and this will have a major impact on Pakistan cricket. The BCCI produces 90% of revenue when it comes to cricket, and IPL is one of the richest franchise leagues in the world. Pakistan should have learned something and should have supported Jay Shah if they wanted to do well or host bigger events”, Kaneria stated.

One of the major concerns why the Pakistan cricket team is consistently failing is Babar Azam’s poor form. The star batter has been going through a rough patch for quite some time now. According to Kaneria, “If Babar Azam wants to do well, he should keep aside that feeling that he is the best. People should not compare Babar with Virat. I mean there is no comparison. Virat is the legend of the game and he has been consistent for so many years now. Babar is nowhere in the race to get compared to Babar. Virat is the king of cricket. The system and administration of Pakistan cricket have spoiled Babar as he was constantly told by them that he is a legend and without him the team cannot function.”

“Pakistan management should tell Babar to go, take a break start playing domestic cricket and then come back. I remember, when Inzi Bhai (Inzamam-ul-Haq) was going through a poor form, he went back to play domestic cricket, scored runs there and then came back to play for Pakistan”, he said.

Kaneria believes if Pakistan cricket wants to do well, they should bring in veteran player Sarfaraz Ahmed back in the squad. “Pakistan should bring in Sarfaraz Ahmed as the skipper rather than opting for a new captain. Sarfaraz has made Pakistan win a lot of series, he knows how to lead the team. Shaan should be made Sarfaraz’s deputy so that he can be groomed by him. This is how Pakistan cricket can get some benefit”, Kaneria opined.

  • ICC Inspection Team To Visit Pakistan To Assess Preparations For Champions Trophy 2025, India’s Participation Still Uncertain. cricket news

Champions Trophy 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to send a delegation to Pakistan in the coming weeks to assess the country’s preparations for hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to a reports, the ICC team will arrive within the next 10 days to inspect key venues and facilities. This visit will be crucial to determine Pakistan’s readiness to host the prestigious tournament, marking its return to global cricketing events after a long hiatus.

Following the ICC’s inspection, the governing body is expected to announce the tournament’s schedule and initiate the sale of tickets.

Major Upgrades Underway at Pakistan’s Key Venues

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been working extensively to ensure world-class facilities for the event. Earlier this year, the PCB allocated Rs 12.80 billion for the upgradation of three key stadiums: Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium. These venues will host the matches of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, and the upgrades aim to elevate their infrastructure to meet international standards.

    India’s Participation Still Uncertain

While preparations are in full swing, India’s participation in the tournament remains uncertain due to geopolitical tensions between the two nations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that it will follow the Indian government’s directives regarding the team’s involvement in the tournament. Relations between India and Pakistan have historically impacted cricketing ties, with India refusing to travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, leading to their matches being held in Sri Lanka.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that discussions with the BCCI are ongoing. “We are in touch with the boards of the teams participating in the tournament,” Naqvi was quoted as saying by Geo News. Naqvi also expressed confidence in the smooth execution of the tournament and highlighted that there are no concerns regarding Jay Shah’s recent appointment as the ICC chairman.

Jay Shah’s New Role As ICC Chairman

Jay Shah, who was unanimously elected as the new chairman of the ICC last month, will step down from his roles as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the BCCI secretary. His election to the top post is significant, with many eyes now on how India’s role in international cricket evolves under his leadership. Shah’s elevation also signifies the growing influence of Indian cricket on the global stage, as he joins a prestigious list of Indian officials who have headed the ICC.

PCB Confident Ahead Of Champions Trophy

The PCB remains optimistic about the success of the Champions Trophy 2025. Despite uncertainties surrounding India’s participation, Naqvi emphasized that preparations are on track and that he is working closely with the ICC and participating boards. “The Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, and we are in touch with the boards of the teams participating in the tournament,” he reiterated.

  • Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Mohsin Naqvi Reacts To Jay Shah’s Appointment As ICC Chairman, Says This… | cricket news

Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been unanimously appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), replacing outgoing chairman Greg Barclay, who opted not to seek a third term. Shah’s rise to this prestigious position marks a significant milestone in cricket governance, making him the youngest to assume the role. His appointment has drawn considerable attention in the cricketing world, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has expressed no concerns regarding the development.

    Mohsin Naqvi’s Reaction

Naqvi commented on the appointment, stating, “We are in touch with Jay Shah; there are no concerns about his becoming ICC Chairman. The ACC meeting is on September 8 and 9.” His remarks reflect a positive stance towards Shah’s elevation and suggest that Shah’s new position will not strain relations between the cricket boards of India and Pakistan, despite the political challenges that often surround Indo-Pak cricket ties.

Shah now joins an illustrious list of Indians who have headed the ICC, including Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar. His new role, effective from December 1, 2024, will see him at the helm of global cricket governance at a critical time as the sport continues to evolve.

    Naqvi Discusses Upcoming ACC Meeting

Mohsin Naqvi also touched upon the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, where a significant decision regarding the selection of the new ACC president is expected to take place. While Naqvi confirmed that he would not be attending the meeting, he assured that PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer, would represent Pakistan in his stead.

“The meeting will finalize matters related to the new president,” Naqvi stated, without elaborating further on the potential candidates or Pakistan’s stance on the leadership change within the ACC.

Pakistan Prepares for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

In a further demonstration of the PCB’s commitment to maintaining high standards in international cricket, Naqvi provided updates on Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, will see Pakistan hosting the event for the first time since it gained full ICC member status.

Naqvi confirmed that major cricketing venues across Pakistan, including Karachi’s National Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, are undergoing extensive upgrades to meet the international standards required to host such a prestigious tournament.

“We are in touch with the boards of the teams participating in the tournament,” Naqvi remarked, reinforcing Pakistan’s intent to deliver a successful edition of the Champions Trophy. He also confirmed ongoing communication with the BCCI, signaling a hopeful path for Indo-Pak. cooperation in cricketing matters.

As Pakistan gears up to host the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, the country’s cricketing infrastructure is being fine-tuned to ensure a smooth and successful tournament. This will be a significant moment for Pakistan cricket, as the nation looks to showcase its hosting capabilities to the international cricketing community.

With Shah at the helm of the ICC and Naqvi preparing Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, the stage is set for an exciting period in international cricket, with both governance and tournament execution playing pivotal roles in shaping the future of the sport.

  • Jay Shah Explains Absence Of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma From Duleep Trophy 2024 | cricket news

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said on Thursday that star batsmen Rohit and Virat Kohli should not be insisted on playing Duleep Trophy since exposing them more will have a risk of injuries. The Duleep Trophy, which marks the beginning of red-ball cricket in the domestic season, will feature top India stars from the international circuit and emerging talents competing at the highest level.

The tournament is set to begin on September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. (Throwback: When MS Dhoni Shocked Everyone With Single Social Media Post On Independence Day)

Though BCCI is encouraging top Indian players and regulars to take part in domestic cricket more regularly, Shah said that the two cricketing icons should not be insisted on playing in the tournament to reduce the chance of them sustaining injuries. He also noted how in Australia and England, every international player does not play domestic cricket.

In a media interaction with Mumbai, as quoted by Wisden, Shah said, “We should not insist on players like Rohit and Virat to play in the Duleep Trophy. They will risk injury. If you have noticed, in Australia and England, every international player does not play domestic cricket. We have to treat the players with respect.”

Notably, India’s key players of red-ball cricket, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah, will not feature in the competition. Rohit’s last appearance in the tournament was back in 2016 while for Virat it was back in 2010, when he was yet to feature in a Test for India.

He also said that other notable names will be involved in domestic cricket during the coming days, notably Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer who lost their BCCI central contracts due to their alleged lack of participation in domestic red-ball cricket.

“Apart from them, everyone else is playing. You should appreciate that. One must note that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are playing in the Buchi Babu tournament,” added Shah.

The Buchi Babu tournament, which is starting on Thursday will see the participation from Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav representing their state teams. Star India batsmen Rishabh Pant, Kishan, Shubman Gill and many more players are set to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 season.

Notably, pacer Prasidh Krishna will make his comeback after serving a lengthy period on the sidelines due to injury. Since 2019, Krishan’s career has been plagued by injuries. He sustained a stress fracture on his left leg in 2019, a stress fracture of the back in 2022, and a quadriceps injury in 2024.

Young batsman Tilak Varma has also been included in the tournament. He suffered a wrist injury towards the end of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Youngster Musheer Khan, who starred for India in the Under-19 World Cup, has been rewarded for his consistency. The 19-year-old all-rounder enjoyed a breakout season after lifting the Ranji Trophy with Mumbai earlier this year. Musheer will look to make his mark after being included in the Duleep Trophy.

Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been included in the first round of the tournament, but his participation remains subject to fitness. (Virat Kohli Living ‘Common Man Life’ In London, Video Goes Viral – Watch)
