In the case that lasted for 22 years, the wife of the bank manager along with her sons fought the case in the High Court and won. The bank manager was accused of taking bribe in lieu of giving loan for digging borewell under the government scheme. In fact, Rajendra Kumar Yadav, a resident of Durg, was working as a branch manager in the Bemetara branch of Agriculture and Land Development Bank in the year 2000-01. During this time, farmer Dhirendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of village Eramsahi Navagarh block, applied for a loan under the government scheme for digging a borewell in the name of his father Rajendra Narayan Shukla. On this application, branch manager Rajendra Kumar Yadav asked to deposit a processing fee of Rs 526. On this, the farmer complained to Lokayukta Raipur about the branch manager demanding bribe.

On the complaint, Lokayukta sent the complainant to the bank manager with the chemical-coated currency in May 2001 and trapped and detained the branch manager. In this case, the special judge in January 2003 sentenced the branch manager to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 1 year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 under section 13 (D) 1. The branch manager appealed against this decision in the High Court. While the appeal was pending, the appellant branch manager died.

After the death of her husband, wife Uttam Kumari Yadav along with her sons Prashant Yadav and Nishant Yadav took the case forward. After 22 years, the final hearing on the appeal was held in the High Court in August. The High Court found in the case that the complainant had paid Rs 526 as processing fee to the appellant. The trap team said that four currency notes of Rs 100 each were seized from his pocket.

During the hearing, it came to light that the team had taken out 7-8 currency notes from the pocket of the appellant. The number of the notes given as bribe is also not recorded. The appellant said in his defence that the complainant had paid the processing fee, for which he was also given a receipt. The said receipt was also presented in the case. After the hearing, the High Court has acquitted the bank manager of the charge of taking bribe and rejected the decision of the lower court.

Rohit Kashyap, Mungeli. A shocking case of ATM theft has come to light in the district. Late Saturday night, a cunning criminal tried to break into the ATM of India One Bank located at Jarhagaon bus stand, but before he could succeed in his plans, the police caught him red-handed. During police interrogation, he made many shocking revelations which even stunned the police.

Let us tell you that the name of the clever thief caught by the police is Yogendra Singh (age 27 years) son of Ram Singh, who is a resident of Shankar Ward Malhapara. Additional SP Pankaj Patel said that Deputy Inspector General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police Girija Shankar Jaiswal has ordered immediate and strict action against anti-social elements as well as to make night patrolling more active. In compliance with which, at 3 o’clock in the night between Saturday and Sunday, a person was breaking into the ATM of India One Bank located at Jarhagaon Bus Stand with a hammer and screwdriver. As soon as the police patrolling team reached there, the accused tried to run away, but the police chased him and caught him.

Additional SP Pankaj Patel said that during interrogation, accused Yogendra Singh revealed that in order to steal the ATM, he first stole a motorcycle from Jarhagaon and reached the ATM using the same. The accused broke the CCTV camera installed in the ATM to hide his identity. A case has been registered against accused Yogendra Singh, father Ram Singh, age 27 years, resident of Shankar Ward Malhapara, Mungeli, under crime number 167/24 and 168/24 in Jarhagaon police station and investigation is being carried out.

Stolen bike and other items recovered from the accused

The stolen bike, the screwdriver used in the crime, the hammer, the broken CCTV camera, the card reader, and the remains of the ATM machine have been recovered from the accused’s possession. Police station in-charge sub-inspector S.K. Sharma and his team played an important role in this operation. The Additional SP said that the Mungeli police will continue to remain vigilant and active and carry out night patrolling in the future as well.

Ravi Sahu, Narayanpur. Due to disruption in water supply in the Gram Panchayat Devgaon of the district, hundreds of students of PM Shri Pota Cabin and Ashram Hostel are facing many problems. The matter is related to the negligence of the Panchayat and villagers in the peon recruitment, which has created political tension in the village.

PM Shri Pota Cabin 500 seater and 100 seater boys hostel located in Devgaon Gram Panchayat of Narayanpur is facing severe water crisis these days. This crisis arose when the Panchayat and villagers disrupted the water supply due to the neglect of their people in the peon recruitment. When the villagers tried to draw attention to this issue, they were ignored by saying that it was ‘government’s instruction’. After which it was decided in the Gram Sabha that until the people of the Panchayat are not given priority, the water supply will not be restored.

Porta Cabins and Hostel Students

Due to the stoppage of water supply from the village, the students of Pota cabin and hostel are facing severe shortage of drinking water. The administration has tried to supply water from Nagar Palika Parishad tankers, but this measure is not proving to be sufficient.

Pota Cabin superintendent Ranjita Nag says that the bore being used for water supply actually belongs to Pota Cabin, but it was dug at some distance due to lack of water level in the premises. At present, efforts are being made to solve the problem by getting water tankers from the municipality.
