    Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced slashing of the domestic LPG prices by Rs 100 on the occasion of Women’s day. Sharing the news on X, PM Modi said the move will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting ‘Nari Shakti’. 

    “Today, on the occasion of Women’s Day, we have taken a big decision to discount Rs 100 on the prices of LPG cylinders. This will not only make the life of women’s power easier but will also reduce the financial burden of crores of families. This step will also be helpful in environmental protection, which will improve the health of the entire family,” said PM Modi.

    Benefits To Ujjwala Beneficiaries

    The Union Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday approved the extension of a targeted subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year for the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the financial year 2024-25. As of March 1, 2024, there are more than 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries. A LPG cylinder used to cost Rs 600 to Ujjwala beneficiaries. If the Rs 100 benefits are given to the PMUY beneficiaries, then the cost will further reduced to Rs 500.

    New LPG Rates

    Earlier, a LPG cylinder used to cost Rs 1,100 to non-Ujjwala consumers. However, the Modi government reduced the prices by Rs 200 per cylinder in August last year bringing the prices down to Rs 900. Now, with another discount of Rs 100, the consumers will get an LPG cylinder for Rs 800.

    Ujjwala Yojana 2023: The Central Government has given big relief to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Scheme. The government has increased the amount of subsidy on Ujjwala scheme (LPG Cylinder Subsidy Hike) has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300. At present, people have to pay Rs 903 for a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder. Whereas, under the scheme, the beneficiaries had to pay Rs 703. After increasing the subsidy by the Central Government, the beneficiaries will have to pay Rs 603. Earlier, on August 30, giving a big relief to the common people and the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme, the Central Government had announced a subsidy of Rs 200 on LPG cylinder and an additional subsidy of Rs 200 to the customers of Ujjwala scheme. Earlier, under the Ujjwala scheme, beneficiaries were being given a subsidy of Rs 200 on the cylinder. This simply meant that now they were being given a subsidy of Rs 400 on the purchase of LPG cylinder. But after this announcement of the government, the subsidy given under Ujjwala scheme has increased to Rs 500.
