  • Modi’s Body Language, Confidence Drastically Changed After Lok Sabha Poll Results: Rahul Gandhi |

JAMMU: Striking an emotional chord with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday said he considers himself their soldier in New Delhi, and added his doors are always open for party workers — “the lions of the Congress”. Taking a dig at the prime minister, Gandhi said Modi’s body language and confidence have drastically changed after the parliamentary poll results.

“You know my relationship with you. It is not a political connection. It is a relationship of love and that of my family’s background. My family comes from your state,” the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha told Congress workers here. He was addressing them on the second and concluding day of his visit to poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir.

“So, you should always feel that you have a sepoy in Delhi. I am your sepoy. Whatever you need, my doors are always open for you,” he said. “You only have to give me an order, and I will be present before you,” Gandhi said amid amid huge applause.

Flanked by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gandhi referred to party leaders as his ‘generals’ and the workers as ‘sepoys’. He emphasised that both must be respected in all situations, including during alliances with other parties.

In an apparent dig at former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, without naming him, Gandhi told the party workers, “When there was a difficult time, and you and your ideology were under attack, you still fought on the ground, keeping the flag flying high. Several people threw down the flag and ran away. You did not run away. You faced bullets, sticks, and abuses, and stood your ground firmly. I call you the lions of the Congress.” Asserting that the Congress and its workers have shaken Prime Minister Modi’s confidence, Gandhi remarked he has lost the self-assured body language he displayed before the elections.

“Congress workers have given him so much psychological tension that his confidence has been badly hit. Congress workers have forced him to bow before the Constitution. He is not the same PM he was before the elections,” he added. He affirmed that the Congress will continue to challenge the BJP across the country.

“Whenever they try to do any mischief, they will find the Congress challenging them. The Congress and its workers have saved the Constitution and democracy in the country. We will thwart their design. They will not be allowed to pass their bills,” he said.

He said the Congress is engaged in a battle of ideologies with the BJP. “It is a fight between the ideologies of Congress and the RSS.” On the issue of ticket distribution by the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, Gandhi expressed his desire to see tickets being given to grassroots workers. “They should have the opportunity to become MLAs. I want to see them in assembly.” He also called for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood at the earliest. He said the people of J&K have gained nothing under the current regime, which has handed over all the region’s resources to “outsiders”.

Gandhi and Kharge were welcomed and honoured with a Dogri pagri and picture of Mata Vaishnodevi.

  • Seven Months After Lakshadweep Row, Maldives’ Full Throttle Praise For India | world news

It was in January this year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lakshadweep urging Indians to explore islands of the country. This led to a social media war of words between Indian netizens and Maldivian politicians that escalated into diplomatic tensions. Maldivian President Dr Mohammad Muizzu has been known for his pro-China stance but recently has been trying to take a measured approach while dealing with New Delhi and Beijing.

Shortly after taking office, Muizzu had demanded that India repatriate its military personnel from his country. Following negotiations, India agreed to withdraw its personnel by the mutually set deadline of May 10, replacing them with civilian staff. This move further strained relations between the two nations.

Bilateral ties had recently shown signs of improvement following External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s three-day visit, which aimed to ease months of tension since the pro-China Muizzu assumed office last November. During his visit earlier this month, Jaishankar met with the top leadership of the archipelagic nation, including President Muizzu. Prior to this, Muizzu had visited New Delhi for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new government in June.

The Maldivian Foreign Minister, Moosa Zameer, recently remarked that India has emerged as the world’s largest and most diverse democracy, setting an example that inspires many nations, including the Maldives. Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between Maldives and India, which, he said, is “rooted in its people and strengthened through our active bilateral cooperation,” Zameer reiterated the firm commitment of President Dr Mohammad Muizzu’s government “to strengthen and deepen” the robust relationship between our two countries “for the mutual benefit of our people.” Zameer was speaking as a chief guest at a function on the 78th Independence Day of India in Male.

Calling it an “honor” to serve as the chief guest at the event, Zameer conveyed warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of President Muizzu, the Government, and the people of the Maldives to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, and the friendly people of India.

“(I) Congratulated India for their remarkable journey, one of profound significance and inspiration. India has emerged as the world’s largest and most diverse democracy that leads by example inspiring many countries, including the Maldives,” Zameer posted on X after the event. “I reflected on the long-standing partnership between Maldives and India — a partnership rooted in its people and strengthened through our active bilateral cooperation,” he said.

He reiterated the firm commitment of President Dr Muizzu’s Government to strengthen and deepen the robust relationship between our two countries for the mutual benefit of our people. Zameer, in his longish post, said he also thanked External Affairs Minister Jaishankar for his unwavering support “to enhancing our bilateral ties.” He thanked India’s ambassador to the Maldives Munu Mahawar for hosting the event.

Mahawar, replying to his post, thanked Zameer for gracing “this celebration of our lasting friendship” and said: “We are confident that under the leadership of PM @narendramodi and President @MMuizzu, our relationship will scale new heights and the bonds of friendship. will become even stronger.” Earlier, the Indian mission said in a post on symphony of Indian and Maldivian vocal and dance performances, including a medley of Indian and Maldivian songs and special dance performances by artists from India and Maldives.

  • Congress Slams Modi for ‘Petty’ Seating Of Rahul Gandhi At I-Day Celebration |

On Thursday, the Congress party sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly demonstrating ‘pettiness’ and a lack of respect for democratic traditions by relegating Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to the fifth row at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. The opposition party’s condemnation followed claims from event organizers that the seating arrangement adhered to the ‘table of precedence’, which this year prioritized honoring Paris Olympics medal winners as special guests.

The Congress on Thursday said that making Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi “sit in the fifth row” at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘pettiness’ and lack of respect for democratic traditions. The opposition party’s attack came after sources involved in organising the event said all seating arrangements were done “as per the table of precedence”. They said it was decided this year that ‘Paris Olympics medal winners’ would be honoured as special guests at the Independence Day celebrations.

Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said, “Modi ji, it’s about time you wake up to the new reality post-June 4th. The arrogance with which you relegated Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi ji to the last rows during the Independence Day ceremony shows that you have not learned your lesson.” “The defence ministry’s feeble explanation that it was out of ‘respect for Olympians’ doesn’t cut much ice. While Olympians deserve every bit of respect, I wonder how Cabinet ministers like Amit Shah or Nirmala Sitharaman ji get front row seats ahead of them,” he said.

According to protocol, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) of both Houses must also be seated in the front row but the seats for Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge were in the fifth row, he said. “This was not only an insult to the post of LoP or Rahul ji; it was an insult to the people of India, whose voice Rahul ji represents in Parliament. It’s amazing how uncomfortable the truth can make some people — so much so that they’d rather rearrange the seating than face it,” Venugopal said in a post on X. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate claimed that Modi was a person with a “petty mindset” and he kept giving proof of that himself. “It is futile to expect big things from small-minded people. Narendra Modi certainly showed his frustration by making Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi sit in the fifth row during the Independence Day celebrations but this does not make any difference to Rahul Gandhi and he will keep raising issues of the people as he has been doing,” she said in a video statement on X. “However, it shows that you and your government do not have any respect for democracy, democratic traditions and the Leader of Opposition,” he said. Shrinate said the rank of the Leader of Opposition was that of a Cabinet minister and the ministers of the government were sitting in the first row. Not only Rahul Gandhi was made to sit in the fifth row but Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s designated place was also in the fifth row,” she said.

“A foolish statement has come from the defence ministry that ‘this was done as we wanted to honour Olympians’. They should be honoured and so should Vinesh Phogat but did Amit Shah, JP Nadda, S Jaishankar and Nirmala Sitharaman not want to honour them?” she asked. The Leader of Opposition is important because he makes the government accountable and puts it in the dock by raising people’s issues, Shrinate said. “So these people with a petty mindset do not care about democracy and democratic traditions,” she alleged. The truth is that Modi and his ministers feel uncomfortable with Gandhi as he asks questions of them, she claimed.

“Whether Rahul Gandhi sits in the fifth row or the fiftieth, he will remain a people’s leader — but when will you people stop doing such dirty acts?” she said on X. Congress leader Vivek Tankha said in a post on X, “Why is MoD (Ministry of Defence) acting so petty!! Rahul Gandhi, the LoP Lok Sabha, seated on 4th row. LoP is higher than any Cabinet minister. He is next to prime minister in Lok Sabha.” “Rajnath Singh ji , you can’t allow MoD to politicise national functions!! Not expected from you Rajnath ji,” he added. Gandhi was seen sitting behind a few rows of seats, which were occupied by members of the Indian contingent, which took part in the recently-held Olympic Games in Paris, at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

  • In A Big Diplomatic Win For India Against China, Maldives Hands Over 28 Islands To New Delhi For This Reason |

India’s relations with Maldives hit a new low this year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lakshadweep and Maldivian politicians got irked. This saw a sharp decline in Indian tourists visiting Maldives. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu came to power riding on the ‘India Out’ campaign and has been a pro-China stance. But, the island nation appears to have realized its mistake and is now willing to make peace with India.

    Improving Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar concluded his visit to the Maldives yesterday. During his time in Malé, Jaishankar signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focused on capacity building and inaugurated six High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs). Among the MoUs exchanged were agreements for the capacity building of an additional 1,000 Maldivian civil servants in India and the introduction of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the Maldives. The six HICDPs, supported by Indian grant assistance, cover areas such as mental health, special education, speech therapy, and street lighting, and were jointly inaugurated.

    28 Islands To India Deal

EAM Jaishankar and the Foreign Minister jointly inaugurated, in the presence of President Muizzu, India’s Line of Credit (LoC)-assisted project of water and sewerage network in 28 islands of Maldives. While Muizzu has now allowed India to carry out development work in 28 islands, it was his government that earlier ousted Indian troops and technical workers from Male.

    Budget Assistance To Maldives

The Union Budget 2024 presented on July 23 revealed a significant 48 per cent reduction in aid to this island nation for the 2024-25 fiscal year compared to the previous year. The current fiscal allocation designates Rs 400 crore as “grants” to the Maldives, a substantial decrease from the Rs 770 crore provided last year. This allocation is also Rs 200 crore less than what was proposed in the interim budget presented in February 2024.

    Muizzu Hails India

President Mohamed Muizzu appreciated India’s continued developmental assistance to the Maldives and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening the India-Maldives relationship further. During Jaishankar’s visit, the Maldivian side appreciated India’s support for the overall development of Maldives, including social, infrastructural, and financial sectors.

  • What Defied Yogi-Modi Magic? Six Reasons BJP Feels Went Against It In Uttar Pradesh |

Uttar Pradesh has turned out to be the real battleground for the political parties – be it the BJP, Samajwadi Party and the Congress. Such was the impact of the BJP’s defeat in the state Lok Sabha polls, that it echoed in Parliament as well. The reports of discontent within the BJP in Uttar Pradesh have been doing rounds with state party leaders touring Delhi and meeting senior party leaders including JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now an internal report of the BJP has listed six key reasons that helped the opposition defy Modi-Yogi magic in the state where the saffron party was confident of a grand victory.

The report highlights an 8% drop in the BJP’s vote share throughout various regions in Uttar Pradesh. It urges the central leadership to take decisive measures to avoid future elections becoming a contest between privileged and underprivileged groups.

The report identifies six main reasons for the BJP’s lacklustre performance, such as perceived administrative overreach, dissatisfaction among party workers, frequent exam paper leaks, and the hiring of contractual workers for government roles, which allegedly strengthened opposition claims about the party’s position on reservations.

    — Zee News (@ZeeNews) July 18, 2024

The six reasons are – the repercussions of the Agniveer Yojana, loss from the Opposition’s claim about the reservation and certain BJP leaders’ statements related to the constitution, the high-headedness of the administration and government officials against the public, discontent among party workers against the government, anger among people due to paper leak and factionalism due to early ticket distribution.

The report also highlights shifts in electoral support, noting decreased backing from the Kurmi and Maurya communities, as well as a decline in Dalit votes. Issues like the Old Pension Scheme resonated with senior citizens, while concerns such as Agniveer and frequent paper leaks struck a chord with the youth.
