    Earlier, during the 20th ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posed for a photograph with other ASEAN leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met members of the Indian diaspora ahead of attending the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit. During this meeting, the Indian expatriates present there welcomed him warmly.

    PM Modi reached Indonesia on Thursday morning. During this, the Prime Minister will discuss India’s partnership with other countries in the strategically important region. PM Modi said in his post on social media platform ‘X’, “I have reached Jakarta. Looking forward to ASEAN related meetings and meeting various leaders to improve this planet.

    Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in his post on X, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Jakarta to participate in ASEAN related meetings. This is an opportunity to engage with the leaders of ASEAN and EAS on important regional and global issues.” In his statement before leaving for Jakarta, the Prime Minister described engagement with ASEAN as a part of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. Termed it as an ‘important pillar’ and said that the comprehensive strategic partnership established last year has infused new energy into the relations between the two sides.

    Indonesia, as the current chair of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), is hosting the summit. ASEAN is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region and India and many other countries including the US, China, Japan and Australia are its dialogue partners. Immediately after the meeting, Prime Minister Modi will leave for Delhi at 11:45 am Indian time and will reach Delhi at around 6:45 pm on Thursday evening.
