  • ‘This is the future of Indian cricket?’ Fans Disheartened After Team India Batters Collapse Vs Zimbabwe In 1st T20I | Cricket News

Team India found themselves in deep trouble against Zimbabwe as the new and unexperienced batting line-up collapsed under the leadership of Shubman Gill badly. Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dhruv Jurel – all failed to reach the double figure mark in their chase of 116 runs in the 1st T20I at Harare Sports Club on Saturday (July 6).

After winning the toss, Shubman Gill elected to chase given the conditions. However, the decision did not go that well in the second innings for India as they had a batting collapse. Earlier, India bowlers were on top of their game in the first innings restricting Zimbabwe to just 115 for 9. After winning the toss, India captain Shubman Gill said, “We will field first. I think it looks like a good surface. It won’t change much later. It has been long coming. We won an ICC event after 11 years. You always have some expectations from yourself. We have three debutants. Sharma, Jurel, and Parag make their debuts.”

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza said during the time of the toss, “I don’t mind batting first. The wicket looks good. Zimbabwe Cricket has trusted me with this transition phase. I look for young boys to come out and fight. It is humbling to lead this bunch. Sean has retired. It is a young side. Ervine will have a role in the future.”

As Zimbabwe secured their win over India, fans on social media were shell-shocked with such poor batting performance. Zimbabwe outclassed the young Indian side in all departments at the Harare Sports Club.

IND vs ZIM 1st T20I Match Report

The post Virat-Rohit era in T20I began with a 13-run defeat for India in the first game against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. After restricting Zimbabwe to 115/9, India looked well poised to chase down the total comfortably. However, the inexperienced Indian side was rattled early in the chase which helped Zimbabwe successfully defend the lowest total against the Men in Blue in T20I format.

The unforeseen victory ended India’s 12-match unbeaten streak and made them taste their first loss in T20I this year. Just two days ago, a victory parade was held in Mumbai to celebrate India’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados.

The voices have been silenced after Zimbabwe pulled off an inspired performance to hand a defeat to the inexperienced Indian side. Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag’s debut for the Indian team turned into a nightmare. The much-anticipated fireworks never came from Abhishek’s bat after Brian Bennett sent him back for a four-ball duck.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (7) fell short against Blessing Muzarabani, while Parag tried to send the ball over mid-on, failed to get the desired connection and walked back with a score of 2(3).

After removing Parag, Chatara once again weaved his magic, restrained Rinku Singh from completely opening his arms and sealed his trip back to the dressing room for a two-ball duck.

Gill, who witnessed the collapse from the other end, survived a scare after Muzarabani almost pinned him in front of the stumps. Dhruv Jurel and Gill tried to rebuild India’s innings, but the damage turned out to be more than they had predicted. The game eventually fell out of India’s hands after Jurel chipped it straight into the hands of Madhevere, leaving India tottering at 43/5.

Washington Sundar tried to keep India’s fight alive after Gill’s dismissal. In the battle between skippers, Gill succumbed to his counterpart’s crafty spinner Sikandar Raza. Sundar rotated the strike to keep the scoreboard pressure off. Avesh Khan went berserk and raised hopes of an unlikely victory with his 16-run cameo off 12 balls.

However, the asking rate got too much, and Sundar eventually lost his wicket in the final over, which sealed a famous 13-run win for Zimbabwe. (Was Virat Kohli feeling underconfident during T20 World Cup 2024? Here’s what Team India star has revealed)

Earlier in the innings, Avesh Khan opened the floodgates for India by dismissing Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, and then it was the duo of Bishnoi and Sundar who ran through the hosts’ lower order. Bishnoi was the chief destroyer, finishing with career-best figures of 4-2-13-4.

Opting to field first, India began their innings on a good note as Mukesh Kumar removed Innocent Kaia on his very first ball in the second over of the match. Brian Bennett then came out to bat, and the batter opened his tally with a lofty four, topping it with another boundary on the last ball of the second over. Wessly Madhevere also joined the hard-hitting party as he and Bennett smoked Khaleel Ahmed for 17 runs, slamming four boundaries.

Ravi Bishnoi struck with the very first ball to dismiss Brian Bennett as India broke the partnership. Bishnoi bagged his second wicket of the day as he dismissed Madhevere, who went for a sweep shot and completely missed it with the ball hitting his stumps. After 10 overs, Zimbabwe had scored 69 runs. Sikandar Raza walked back after scoring 17 runs.

In the 15th over, Washington Sundar gave Zimbabwe back-to-back blows as he removed Dion Myers (23) and Wellington Masakadza for a golden duck. The captain’s departure triggered a collapse for Zimbabwe, and the team lost six wickets for just 17 runs. Brief score: Zimbabwe 115/9 (Clive Madande 29, Brian Bennett 23; Ravi Bishnoi 4-13) vs India 102 (Shubman Gill 31, Washington Sundar 27; Tendai Chatara 3-16) (With ANI Inputs)

  • Chennai Super Kings’ SWOT Analysis: One Big WEAKNESS In MS Dhoni’s CSK Can Hurt Them Immensely | cricket news

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) open their Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22 at their homeground. CSK are five-time champions and in what is likely to be Dhoni’s last season with CSK in IPL, the franchise wants to finish as the most successful franchise in the T20 league by winning the record-making sixth title. In an interview to ESPNcricinfo, coach Stephen Fleming spoke of how the team environment helps this ‘Yellow Brigade’ find consistency. There is a sense of belongingness to CSK that allows players to feel at home and as a result, they set out to achieve the best results for the team.

MS Dhoni is not a leader who works more on data. While numbers, matchups are important in IPL and T20 cricket, Dhoni drives this team on trust and confidence. He chooses his best XI right from the first match and backs them to the hilt unless some of them really go out of form or an injury occurs. Dhoni’s incredible belief in his team and also understanding what is their weakness and how to cleverly hide it, makes him one of the best captains in this competition. Surely, winning five titles is not a sign of a ‘lucky’ captain.

Ahead of IPL 2024, CSK look a solid squad again. But they have been hit by a series of injuries while some new players have joined forces. Let’s do a SWOT analysis of CSK, looking at their strengths, weaknesses, opportunity and threat. Read on.

    strength

Make no mistake about it, CSK’s biggest strength is their leader MS Dhoni. A captain plays a huge role in a competition such as IPL and CSK have been lucky to have Dhoni’s services right from the start. With Dhoni at helm, what worked for CSK is that they stuck with a core group of players, year after year. The Rainas, Husseys, Rayudus may have left, but Dhoni has found a new core in Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Deepak Chahar, Moeen Ali and himself. The franchise does not like to do choppings and changes.

Additionally, their batting looks very strong with Gaikwad, Rahane, Shivam Dube, Jadeja, Dhoni in the mix. The fact that CSK will play 7 games at home, they have quality spinners at the helm to bowl on the slow and low wickets in the form of Jadeja, Mitchell Santner and Moeen.

    weakness

In totality, CSK do look a very good squad. But when you use a lens to look into the little details, there is one short coming. There is no Matheesha Pathirana this year which means CSK lack a quality death-overs specialist. If he is not there, CSK will have to make Mustafizur Rahman play. He was bought at the last auction and what a purchase he is already turning out to be. Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande should open the bowling for CSK while Mukesh Choudhary could also be used as an alternative but they all leak runs at the death, which could become a huge worry for CSK in this season. The teams who have hard-hitting batters deep down the order would like to use this weakness as their advantage.

    Opportunity

IPL 2024 provides CSK an opportunity to look at new players such as Mustafizur. He has been a huge asset for teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) but maybe his best is yet to come at CSK. Not to forget, Rachin Ravindra is a likely option for CSK to replace Devon Conway at the top. Whenever Conway returns, Ravindra can go down to No 3 if her performs with the bat in the first few games. Ajinkya Rahane, at the same time, is hungry for runs after struggling in the recently-concluded Ranji Trophy. It will be interesting to see how he goes.

    Threat

What if the tournament is not held in home and away format after the first two weeks of the competition. BCCI secretary has reportedly said that IPL will be played entirely in India despite the Lok Sabha elections. This is good news for teams who prosper in home conditions. But LS elections will go on simultaneously and if IPL, as a result, is played in just a few places, the home advantage could be compromised for some teams. CSK would be hoping they get to play 7 games at least at Chepauk as their squad is built keeping the home and away format in India. This is a huge potential threat for MS Dhoni’s men ahead of IPL 2024.

    CSK Updated Squad

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni (c), Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant. Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Mustafizur Rahman, Avanish Rao Aravelly.

Players injured/withdrawn: Devon Conway, Matheesha Pathirana.

    CSK Schedule (Announced so far):

  • IPL 2024: Who After MS Dhoni? Massive Update On CSK's Captaincy Provided by CEO Kasi Viswanathan | cricket news

It is highly-likely that IPL 2024 could be MS Dhoni's last T20 championship. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain has not made any statement about retiring from the league as yet but it is also true that he might not be able to carry on for another year as his body may stop giving him the much-needed support. Dhoni already has a troubled knee and has been seen playing with strap on it in previous editions.

Dhoni will be 43 years old in July this year. How he and CSK go in IPL 2024 could give better answers to him as far as leaving or staying is concerned. At the same time, it is important for CSK to find the new leader. In 2022, an experiment took place as Ravindra Jadeja was named as the captain just before the league was to start. However, after a few losses, Dhoni was renamed the captain of the side.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has finally broken silence over who can lead CSK after Dhoni calls it quits. Viswanathan says the next captain will not be decided by him or any other top CSK official but the captain and vice-captain will take this call. “See, there have been internal talks. But, Mr. Srinivasan has made it very clear. Let's not talk about captain and vice-captain appointments. Let's leave it to the coach and the captain to decide. Let them decide and convey the information. to me, and then I will convey it to you all. He has said that 'the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let's all keep quiet',” Viswanathan told former CSK cricketer S Badrinath in the latter's YouTube show.

Among the candidates who can lead Chennai after Dhoni is done are Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali. The biggest contender of them all is Gaikwad, who is young and is also growing into a mature cricketer. He has also spent four years in CSK and has enough experience to get the baton from Captain Cool.

He also underlined the importance of qualifying for the knockouts first in IPL 2024. Viswanathan said that CSK's planning is simple: target the knockouts and see how it goes from there. “We have always focused on qualifying for the knockouts. That's our first aim. After that, it depends on the performance on that day. We are following that even now. Before every season, MS Dhoni tells us 'First let us concentrate on league games. We will look to qualify for the knockouts. Yes, the pressure is there. But over the years, because of our consistency, most of the players are used to this pressure,” he added.

  • Sarfaraz Khan May Replace Ruturaj Gaikwad In India Squad For Tests Vs South Africa After Hitting 61-Ball Ton In Intra-Squad Clash | cricket news

Sarfaraz Khan did himself a huge favor when he smashed a 61-ball hundred in the intra-squad match between India and India A in South Africa. Part of the India A squad which is currently touring South Africa, Sarfaraz has been in good form. He received a surprise call for India A as the batter from Mumbai has been out of reckoning for a long time despite scoring tons of runs.

Sarfaraz has kept on scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy seasons. His dominance in the Indian domestic circuit as a middle-order batsman has been unmatched in recent years. At 26, he has showcased remarkable skill, amassing 3657 runs at an astonishing average of 71.70 across 41 first-class matches. His recent half-century against South Africa further solidifies his prowess. With an impressive record of 13 centuries and 10 fifties in just 61 innings, Sarfaraz consistently hits the fifty-run mark every 2.65 innings.

Ruturaj picked up a finger injury while playing the ODIs in South Africa and is on his way back home, says reports. Ruturaj scored just 9 runs in 2 matches he played. “Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the two-Test series with ring finger fracture,” a source said, as quoted by PTI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm the development. If that is the case then a new replacement will be announced soon. Sarfaraz’s good show in red-ball cricket could finally land him a place in the Indian side. By hitting a quickfire ton, he has done himself a huge favor already.

Sarfaraz has found backing from the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Wasim Jaffer in the past. They had criticized after Sarfaraz was not picked for the Test tour of West Indies this year. Sarfaraz had also shared an Instagram Story in which he put out his domestic track record.

Aakash Chopra expressed concern in a tweet about Sarfaraz Khan potentially being remembered solely for his prolific First-Class cricket performances without getting a chance to represent India. Chopra hopes this won’t be the case and emphasizes the importance of transparent communication about what Sarfaraz needs to do to earn selection. He also stresses that without this clarity, the essence of First-Class cricket, the cornerstone of Indian cricket, might diminish.

Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad can join as cover

In view of the doubt over Shubman Gill suffering from dengue being able to play in the World Cup 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad can be included in the team as cover. The first option will be Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was selected as the opening batsman in the series against Australia and scored a half-century in Mohali.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has given gold to India in Asian Games

The Indian team led by Ruturaj has recently won the gold medal in the men’s T20 of the Asian Games. After which his captaincy is also being praised a lot.

Shubman suffering from dengue discharged from hospital

Indian opener Shubman Gill, who was suffering from dengue and was admitted to the hospital in Chennai due to his platelet count falling below one lakh, has been discharged. It is doubtful whether he will play against Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Gill was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night after his platelet count dropped. He could not play the first match against Australia on October 8 and will not be able to play India’s second match against Afghanistan. Gill was found infected with dengue after coming to Chennai last week.

Gill’s platelet count fell to 70000

A BCCI source said, Shubman was being given a drip at the team hotel in Chennai, but his platelets had fallen to 70,000. After that all the tests were done on Sunday night and he was discharged on Monday evening. It is known that dengue weakens the body and it takes time to recover from it. For a common man, platelets should be between 1.5 to 4.5 lakhs.

After bowling out Australia’s innings for 276 runs, India strengthened its preparations for the World Cup by scoring 281 runs at the loss of five wickets in 48.4 overs.

    India vs Australia

For India, Shubman Gill (74) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (71) laid the foundation of victory by making a partnership of 142 runs for the first wicket. Whereas captain Lokesh Rahul (58 not out) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) made a partnership of 80 runs in 85 balls for the fifth wicket and took the team to the brink of victory.

    India vs Australia

Gill hit six fours and two sixes in his 63-ball innings, while Ruturaj hit 10 fours in his 77-ball innings. Mr. 360 degree Suryakumar hit five fours and one six in 49 balls, while Rahul, who hit the winning six, hit one six and four fours in his 63-ball innings. Adam Zampa took two wickets for Australia.

    India vs Australia

In the World Cup, the Indian team’s middle-order batting is still a weak link and Shreyas Iyer’s failure increased the team’s worries, while Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant innings reduced the problems of the selectors and the team management. Shami is unlikely to get a place in the starting eleven in the Indian team’s World Cup plans, but the player strengthened his claim by taking five wickets for the second time in his ODI career.

    India vs Australia

The pressure will increase on Shardul Thakur, a strong contender for a place in the playing eleven of the team due to his batting skills. Shardul gave away 78 runs in 10 overs against Australia without any success. However, luck did not favor Shardul. Shreyas Iyer took an easy catch of David Warner off his ball at the beginning of the Indian innings.

    India vs Australia

For Australia, David Warner (52), Jose Inglis (45), Steve Smith (41) and Marnus Labuschagne (39) could not convert a good start into a big innings. Chasing the target, Gaikwad and Gill gave a great start to India. Both of them hit fours in the first and third overs of Australian captain Pat Cummins. Gill hit a six against Stoinis.

    India vs Australia

Gaikwad also got a lease of life in the eighth over off the bowling of Sheen Abbott when wicketkeeper Inglis took a difficult catch. This batsman hit fours against Abbott on the last two balls of the 10th over, due to which India’s score in the powerplay became 66 runs without any loss.

    India vs Australia

Gill, who was in great rhythm, completed his half-century in 37 balls by hitting fours and sixes on consecutive balls of Matthew Shot in the 14th over and then completed the team’s hundred runs with one run in the 16th over. Gaikwad completed his first half-century of his ODI career by taking two runs off Abbott in the 18th over. He hit brilliant fours on the last two balls of this over. The wonderful partnership between the two was broken by Jampa by bowling Gaikwad.

    India vs Australia

Shreyas Iyer (three runs), returning from injury, was run out due to a mistake with Gill. Zampa gave a big success to Australia by bowling Gill. India lost three wickets within nine runs. Ishan Kishan, who came to the crease to accompany captain Lokesh Rahul, opened his account with a four.

Jampa took difficult catches of Kishan and then Rahul on consecutive balls in the 28th over of the Indian innings. Both of them took advantage of this by hitting a four on Zampa. Even before this partnership could become dangerous, Cummins ended Kishan’s innings at the hands of wicketkeeper Inglis. He scored 18 runs in 26 balls.
