  • Maruti Suzuki’s profit increased by 80 percent, strong demand for the company’s SUVs.

    The profit of the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki for the last quarter has increased by almost 80 percent. The company has achieved a profit of about Rs 3,717 crore between July and September. Maruti Suzuki’s profit in the same period last year was Rs 2,062 crore. Maruti Suzuki has said that the main reason for the increase in profit is the strong demand for its Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV). Apart from this, the company has also benefited from some reduction in input costs. Maruti Suzuki has SUVs like Grand Vitara, Fronx, Jimny and Brezza. Demand for its utility vehicles like Ertiga has also increased. The company has launched Grand Vitara, Fronx and off-road SUV Jimny in the compact segment of SUV. Due to this, the sales of Maruti Suzuki have increased. In the first half of this year, sales of utility vehicles have been more than three lakh. Maruti Suzuki has more than 25 percent share in this segment. Recently the company had achieved the feat of selling 10 lakh automatic vehicles. Automatic transmission system is offered in 16 models of Maruti. Maruti had said that customers of its NEXA retail chain prefer high-end automatic variants. It accounts for about 58 percent of the company’s automatic car sales. Its automatic transmission systems include Auto Gear Shift (AGS), 4-speed automatic transmission (AT), advanced 6-speed automatic transmission and Electronically-Continuous Variable Transmission (e-CVT). The 5-speed AGS gearbox is offered in the company’s Alto K-10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Fronx. Apart from this, 4-speed AT is available in Jimny and Ciaz and 6-speed AT with paddle shifters in Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Brezza and XL6. The option of e-CVT is available in Grand Vitara and Invicto. Maruti had its highest monthly sales in a month in September. Last month the company’s sales were more than 1.81 lakh units. In the first six months of this financial year, the company’s sales in the country have crossed 10 lakh units. This is the first time that Maruti has crossed the sales mark of 10 lakh units in six months of a financial year.

This off-roader is getting good response from the customers. It has a 462 cc 4 cylinder petrol engine which generates power of 104.8 PS and torque of 134.2 Nm at 4000 rpm. Its fuel tank is of 40 litres. It comes with the option of 5 speed manual transmission and 4 speed AT. Jimny has a 22.86 cm touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, push start and stop, climate control, power windows, digital lock and tachometer. It includes side and curtain airbags, dual front airbags, brake limited slip differential, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control, brake assist function, rear view camera, side impact door beams, seatbelt pre-tensioner/force limiter. The total dispatch of passenger vehicles by automobile companies to dealers increased to 10,74,189 units between July and September. This is an increase of 4.7 percent compared to the same period last year. Along with this, this is the first time that the wholesales of passenger vehicles have been more than 20 lakh units in the first half of a financial year. Vinod Aggarwal, President, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), said, “The passenger vehicles segment has been driven by strong demand for sports utility vehicles and utility vehicles. It has reached 60 per cent of the total sales.” Wholesales of entry level cars declined by about 35,000 units in the second quarter. Demand has also been weak in the entry level two-wheeler segment. The main reason for this is the lack of recovery in demand in rural areas.   • Maruti Suzuki accused of evasion of customs duty, company receives notice

The company has informed in a regulatory filing about receiving a show cause notice from the Customs Department. Maruti says that it will file a reply to this notice. The company is accused of unfairly obtaining BCD concession on the basis of using imported goods from foreign suppliers. Maruti says that this show cause notice will not have any impact on its functioning. Earlier, apart from a notice from the Income Tax Department, the company had also received a show cause notice regarding GST. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) authority had issued a show cause notice to the company demanding outstanding tax of Rs 193.3 crore. Last month, Maruti had its highest monthly sales in a month.     South Korean automobile company Hyundai Motor has increased the price of Exter SUV. The company launched Exter two months ago. The price of four of its six variants has been increased by up to Rs 16,000. It was launched at a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). Exter’s top end variant SX (O Connect) has received the lowest price increase of around Rs 5,000. It has dual-tone and automatic gear box. Hyundai has increased the price of its SX(O) Connect variant the most by Rs 16,000. It has manual transmission with dual-tone. Its other variants have become costlier by around Rs 10,400. The price of the top-end variant of Exter has increased to around Rs 10.10 lakh (ex-showroom). There is no change in the prices of its entry level EX and SX(O) Connect variants. It competes with Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx. For this, the company has given the option of CNG engine along with petrol. Many features have been provided in Exter SUV and it can be helpful in increasing the sales of Hyundai. It has been made available in White color with Black Roof, Starry Night, Fiery Red, Atlas White, Titan Grey, and Black Roof with Cosmic Blue and Ranger Khaki colors. It has six airbags which are not found in any other car in this segment. The company is giving a warranty of three years or unlimited kilometers with it. Exter has a 1.2 liter petrol engine which generates 83 PS of power and 11.6 Newton meter of torque. It also has the option of 1.2 liter bi-fuel petrol and CNG engine, which can generate 69 PS power and 95.2 Newton meter torque. It is available in both manual and automatic variants. Its design is based on Hyundai’s new design system, which has a split headlamp setup with H-shaped LED DRL. There is a turn indicator at the top and a headlamp cluster at the bottom. On the side, the Exter gets squared wheel arches with dual tone alloy wheels. There is a black strip in its rear which is linked to both the tail lamps.

Its price ranges between Rs 6.53 lakh to Rs 9.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The compact sedan segment includes Hyundai’s Aura, Honda’s Amaze and Tata Motors’ Tigor.

Its price is Rs 10,99,900 to Rs 15,99,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It has been made available in four variants. The company has delivered 200 units of Elevate SUV in a mega event. More than 90 percent of its components have been locally sourced. Its manufacturing is being done in the company’s factory at Tapukara in Rajasthan. A lot of space has been given in its interior. Apart from this, Elevate has 458 liters of cargo space. It has been made available in Phoenix Orange Pearl, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Golden Brown Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic and Meteoroid Gray Metallic colors. Honda Elevate has a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. It generates power of 119 BHP at 6,600 rpm and torque of 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm. It has six speed manual transmission and CVT option. It competes with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser. It has features like 10.25 inch touchscreen system, electric sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7 inch semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless charging. Apart from this, ventilated front seat, door-panel mounted ORVM, LED headlights, connected LED lights are provided. For safety, Elevate has features like six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, advanced driver assistance system, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and high beam assist. Sales in the SUV category have increased rapidly in the country in the last few years. Because of this, many automobile companies are launching their models in this category. Recently, South Korea’s Hyundai launched micro SUV Exter. The waiting period for some of its variants has reached up to one year. However, for the rest of the Exter variants it is around six months. Hyundai has made it available in seven variants.

Lexus also expects strong demand to continue in the luxury car market. The company has introduced limited editions of its sports coupe, LC 500h, for the festive season. It has also started booking for its new multipurpose vehicle LM. This is a new category for Lexus in the country.

All these variants are available in both petrol and diesel options. The price of its entry level manual transmission diesel variant Z2 will be Rs 13.76 lakh. The price of its top diesel variant Z8L 4WD with automatic transition has increased by Rs 2,000 to Rs 24.53 lakh. The six-seater top petrol variant of Scorpio-N, Z8L with automatic transmission, can be purchased for Rs 21.78 lakh. This SUV is available in 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine and 2.2 liter diesel engine options. Its petrol engine generates maximum power of 197 bhp and peak torque of 380 Nm. Recently, the company had offered a huge discount of Rs 1.25 lakh on its electric SUV XUV400. Earlier this year the company launched XUV400. Its range on a single charge is a little more than 450 kilometers. This discount will be available till the end of September. The XUV400 competes with MG’s ZS EV and Tata Motors’ Nexon EV. This is the second time in two months that Mahindra is offering discounts on its only electric vehicle. This is a cash discount and does not include any other benefits. However, there is no discount on its variants with Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The XUV400 has two variants – EC and EL. The company may launch a new version of it soon. XUV400 can be bought for less than Rs 15 lakh with this discount in September. Last month the company updated XUV400 with new features. It will have features like electronic stability program, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control and fog lamps.

  • Citroen launches C3 Aircross in India, will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos

    French automobile maker Citroen has launched the new SUV C3 Aircross in India. Its price ranges from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom). It has been made available in five and seven seat variants. However, customers will have to pay extra for the seven seater variant. Bookings for the C3 Aircross have started from September 15. Its booking can be done through the company’s dealerships or online portal by paying Rs 25,000. Its delivery will start from October 15. It is the first SUV in the compact segment with three-row seating. It will compete with Hyundai’s Creta, Kia’s Seltos and Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara. It has been made available in three variants You, Plus and Max. For its seven seater Flexi Pro version, customers will have to pay an additional Rs 35,000. It has a 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine and six speed manual gearbox. It can generate maximum power of 108 bhp and peak torque of 190 Nm. The company claims that its mileage is 18.5 kmpl. The company can also introduce its automatic version. The width of the C3 Aircross is 1,796 mm, length is 4,323 mm and height is 1,669 mm. Its front is almost identical to the upgraded C5 Aircross. It will be available in four single and six dual tone colors. The company has kept its interior simple but it has a lot of space. It has a 10.23 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Citroen Connect. The C3 Aircross also has 35 smart connected features. However, it does not have sunroof or automatic climate control. Earlier this year, the company had introduced the eC3, the electric version of the C3 hatchback in the country. This was the company’s first electric vehicle (EV) in the country. It has a 29.2 kWh battery. The company had claimed its range to be 320 Km. It has a 10.2-inch infotainment system, four-speaker audio system and height adjustable driver seat. It can reach the speed of 0-60 kmph in just 6.8 seconds. The company has limited its top speed to 107 kmph.
