    Ratan Tata one of the most beloved Indian industrialists and esteemed chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86. He is characterised by bold global acquisitions and a strong commitment to ethical values. Starting from modest beginnings, he significantly expanded the company’s international presence.

    One of India’s most renowned business leaders is celebrated for his humility and compassion, as well as his vision, business acumen, integrity, and ethical leadership. In 2008, he was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour.


    From Humble Beginnings To Steady Ascent

    Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937, to Naval and Soonoo Tata. He and his younger brother, Jimmy, were raised by their grandmother, Navajbai R Tata, in Mumbai’s Tata Palace.

    At the age of 17, Ratan left for Cornell University in the U.S., where he studied architecture and engineering for seven years and received a degree in 1962. When was in America, from 1955 to 1962, greatly influenced him, especially the lifestyle in California, where he considered settling in Los Angeles. However, he returned to India when his grandmother’s health declined, leaving behind the life he had envisioned.

    After returning to India, Ratan Tata received a job offer from IBM, but JRD Tata disapproved. Instead, in 1962, he joined Tata Industries. He spent six months at Telco (now Tata Motors) before moving to Tisco (now Tata Steel) in 1963.

    In 1965, he became a technical officer at Tisco and, in 1969, served as the Tata group’s representative in Australia. In 1970, he briefly joined Tata Consultancy Services and became the director of National Radio and Electronics (NELCO) in 1971.

    He joined the board of Tata Sons in 1974 and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School the following year.

    Ratan Tata: Restructuring And Growth

    Ratan Tata began restructuring the Tata Group in 1991 and from 2000 onwards, the group experienced significant growth and globalisation under his leadership.

    He became Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Trusts in 1991, the same year India opened its economy through reforms. Ratan Tata seized the opportunities presented by these changes while navigating various challenges.

    In the new millennium, Tata led several high-profile acquisitions, including Tetley, Corus, Jaguar Land Rover, Brunner Mond, General Chemical Industrial Products, and Daewoo. He served as chairman of the Tata Group for over two decades until his retirement in 2012.


    Ratan Tata’s Connection With The Masses

    In 2008, Ratan Tata launched the Tata Nano, the world’s most affordable car, making global headlines. He led the ambitious small car project with enthusiasm and determination. Many called it the “1 lakh car,” and Tata emphasised that “a promise was a promise,” announcing the base model would be priced at Rs 1 lakh.

    New Delhi: Vistara has offered 20 minutes of complimentary Wi-Fi internet connectivity on its international flights. The complimentary Wi-Fi access enables customers to stay connected and is ideal for those who wish to purchase extended Wi-Fi plans using Indian credit or debit cards. The service allows customers to receive one-time passwords via email, facilitating the purchase of extended in-flight Wi-Fi services during the active session.  

    Vistara’s internet connectivity plan for international flights includes a free chat facility for all Club Vistara members, regardless of tier or cabin, throughout the flight. For non-members, unlimited messaging on apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger costs Rs 372.74 plus GST. To surf the internet onboard, the airline charges Rs 1577.54 plus GST, which includes embedded audio and video streaming for social media and web content. For Rs 2707.04 plus GST, customers receive unlimited data, enabling all streaming protocols.

    It is important to note that these services are available on flights operated by its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Airbus A321neo aircraft, across all cabin classes, claims the company.

     Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, is the first Indian airline to offer this feature.

    New Delhi: As India becomes the second nation in the world in terms of mobile manufacturing, the Apple ecosystem is now one of the leading employment generators in the sector, Union Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.

    Mobile manufacturing has been a leading force in job creation in the last 10 years, as the government aims to make India a global manufacturing hub.

    “In the ecosystem of Apple alone, more than 1.5 lakh people have got employment and there is good amount of growth. In the future, you will see even more exponential growth because people have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a global manufacturing hub,” Ashwini Vaishnaw told IANS during an interaction.

    iPhone factories in the country are set to hire more than 10,000 people directly in the peak June-September period. Apple is doubling down on investing in India and is reportedly in advanced talks with Tata Group’s Titan Company and Murugappa Group to assemble sub-components for phone camera modules.

    Last year, Tata Group acquired Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron’s India operations for $125 million. It is also reportedly eyeing to acquire Pegatron’s iPhone manufacturing facility near Chennai.

    Apple aims to manufacture more than 50 million iPhones in India per year, as it aims to shift some of the production out from China.

    The company’s increased investments in India come as the growth of mobile phone production in the country over a decade is being described as an unmatched success story in the manufacturing sector.

    The FY24 production of iPhones exceeded Rs 1 lakh crore, with 70 per cent exports and a total market value of Rs 1.6 lakh crore.
