  • Telangana: State Congress President Revanth Reddy, who challenged the CM, detained by police

Revanth Reddy had not taken permission from the concerned authorities and was taken into preventive custody to avoid possible law and order problems due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state.

“He (Revanth) was taken into preventive custody and then taken to Gandhi Bhawan,” a senior police officer said.

Congress workers raised slogans in protest against the police action against the party’s state unit chief. When Revanth Reddy was taken into preventive custody, they raised slogans of ‘stop police brutality’.

BRS had recently alleged that Congress was bringing money from Karnataka to woo voters in Telangana. In response to this, the State Congress President had given a ‘challenge’ to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

Later, while talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy said that the ruling BRS is resorting to money power and liquor distribution to win the assembly elections to be held on November 30.

He said, “Harish Rao, Tarak Rama Rao, (Chief Minister) K. Chandrashekhar Rao is making serious allegations against Congress that it is bringing money from the neighboring state. He is continuously saying in public meetings that Congress is trying to win elections by distributing money and liquor.

He alleged that it has become clear to the people of Telangana that BRS and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to win the by-elections held in Huzurabad and Munugode respectively in the last years through money power.

He claimed that during the by-election for Munugode assembly seat, liquor worth Rs 300 crore was sold in that constituency in just 20 days, whereas normally liquor worth Rs 60 crore is sold in a month.

He said the Congress neither distributed money nor liquor during the Munugode by-election because the party “does not want to resort to such unethical means”.

Revanth Reddy protested against being detained by the police at Telangana Martyrs Memorial.
