  • In A First, Austrian-Made Assault Rifle Recovered From Slain Terrorists In Jammu |

Srinagar: For the first time in Kashmir’s terror history, a Steyr AUG, an Austrian-made bullpup assault rifle, was recovered from the body of an infiltrating terrorist in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.

The Army recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including a Steyr AUG, an AK series rifle, five grenades, and other materials from two infiltrating terrorists. The terrorists were killed as they attempted to sneak across the Line of Control in the Keran sector of Kupwara.

In a statement, the Army said, “On July 17, credible input was received from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, corroborated by intelligence agencies, regarding a group of foreign terrorists likely to infiltrate through the Keran sector.”

“On July 18, at around 1230 hrs., alert troops observed the movement of two terrorists through thick foliage on their side of the LoC. The infiltrating terrorists were challenged and responded with gunfire, leading to an intense firefight,” the statement added.

“In the ensuing firefight, two foreign terrorists were neutralized. Searches were conducted, leading to the recovery of weapons and other incriminating material, including a Pakistani identity card,” the statement read.

Earlier, Commander 268 Infantry Brigade, Keran sector, Brigadier NR Kulkarni, noted that in recent weeks, there had been intelligence inputs regarding terrorists attempting to infiltrate the LoC along the Keran sector. They aimed to carry out sabotage and subversive activities, particularly targeting the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

On June 15, three foreign terrorists were killed while attempting to sneak across the LoC in the Keran sector. The Army recovered a large quantity of war-like stores at that time, including three AK series rifles with magazines, four pistols, and a grenade.

This was the third infiltration attempt foiled by the Army along the LoC in the past month.

  • Two Soldiers Injured As Terrorists Open Fire On Army Vehicles In J-K’s Kathua |

At least two soldiers were injured when terrorists opened fire on Army vehicles in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.  The incident occurred in Badnota village in Lohai Malhar, 150 kilometres from Kathua, while some Army vehicles were conducting a routine patrol in the area, according to officials. When the last reports came in, security forces had retaliated, and an exchange of fire was underway. Officials said that reinforcements have been dispatched to the area and that more information is awaited.

The attack that took place today happened a full day after two separate encounters in J&K’s Kulgam district resulted in the deaths of six terrorists. The encounters started on Saturday and resulted in the deaths of two soldiers, including a paratrooper, and the injuries of another soldier.

Based on information about the presence of terrorists, security forces, including the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and local police, conducted a search operation in Modergam village, where the first encounter occurred. A para-trooper was killed in the opening gunfight.

  • India Will Enter Pakistan To Kill Terrorists If They Flee There: Rajnath Singh |

NEW DELHI: In a resolute warning to terror outfits, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has affirmed India’s commitment to thwarting terrorism, even if it means crossing the borders. Responding to recent allegations and echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertive stance, Singh stated that India would pursue terrorists who seek refuge in Pakistan after perpetrating acts of violence in India. “20 terrorists ko maara hai? Koi bhi terrorist hamare padosi desh se yadi Bharat ko disturb karne ki koshish karega, ya yahan par aatankwadi harkatein karega, to uska muh tod jawab denge. Yadi woh bhaag kar Pakistan mein jayega, to Pakistan mein ghus kar maarenge (Did you say we killed 20 terrorists? If any terrorist from Pakistan tries to disturb India, or commits terrorist acts here, we will give a befitting response. If he runs away to Pakistan, we will go there and kill him),” Rajnath Singh while speaking to a private media house.

    No Tolerance For Terrorism: Rajnath

Singh emphasized India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, asserting that the country will not hesitate to take decisive action against those who disturb its peace. He reiterated India’s desire for peaceful relations with neighbouring countries but underscored the nation’s readiness to respond firmly to any threat to its security.

    Escalating Tensions

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following the 2019 Pulwama attack, which India attributed to Pakistan-based militants. The subsequent airstrikes by India on terrorist targets in Pakistan further strained relations between the two nations.

    International Allegations

Recent allegations, particularly highlighted by UK-based media outlet The Guardian, have accused India of extrajudicial killings in Pakistan. These claims have sparked international scrutiny and contributed to the ongoing diplomatic friction between India and Pakistan. The Guardian report came months after Canada and the US accused India of killing or attempting to kill Khalistani terrorists in those countries. Canada said in September that it was pursuing “credible allegations” linking India to the death of a Sikh separatist leader shot dead in June – claims that India said were “absurd and motivated”. A top Canadian official said in January that India was cooperating in the matter and bilateral ties were improving. Similarly, the US said in November that it had thwarted an Indian plot to kill a Sikh separatist leader and announced charges against a person it said had worked with India to orchestrate the attempted murder.

    Denial And Counterclaims

New Delhi, however, maintains that targeted killings in other countries are not a policy of the Indian government. The Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated its stand that it has no role to play in these killings. The MEA claimed that they were ‘false and malicious anti-India propaganda’.

Despite these tensions, efforts to improve bilateral relations have been observed, with India expressing a willingness to cooperate in investigations. Both Canada and the US have acknowledged India’s cooperation in addressing the allegations, signalling a potential thaw in diplomatic relations.

Prime Minister Modi has reiterated India’s commitment to investigating any information regarding alleged extraterritorial activities. This commitment underscores India’s adherence to the rule of law and its determination to address accusations transparently.

Earlier in November 2023, Azhar’s right hand Maulana Rahimullah Tariq was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Pakistan. Several wanted terrorists have been eliminated recently in Pakistan by unknown men. While Pakistan has failed to nab any culprits so far, it believes that Indian spy agency RAW is behind the killings.

Masood Azhar has been key conspirator behind numerous terror attacks in India including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2005 Ram Janambhoomi temple attack in Ayodhya and the Pulwama attack on men of Indian armed forces in February 2019. Azhar was reportedly living under the protective custody of the Pakistani deep state in Islamabad.

  • Mountains on one side, ditch on the other: Inside story of Anantnag encounter of Jammu and Kashmir

Mountains on one side, ditch on the other: Inside story of Anantnag encounter of Jammu and Kashmir

Encounter between security forces and terrorists continues in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

    New Delhi:

Anantnag encounter is not ending. The encounter with security forces that started late Tuesday night is continuing. It is clear that the terrorists have come with full preparation. They have no shortage of ammunition and food items.

According to information received by NDTV India from security forces, on Tuesday, the Army and Police received input from the informer that terrorists are hiding in Gadul in Kokernag area. When the area was searched, nothing was found. Just received information that terrorists are on top of the hill. The army and police team decided to attack the terrorists.

Quick response could not be taken on difficult path

The path to climb up the hill is quite narrow and full of challenges. On one side there are mountains and dense forests and on the other side there is a deep ditch. On top of that there was darkness of night. Next was Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, then Major Ashish and then DSP of Police Humayun Bhatt. In the hide out above, the terrorists could see the security forces coming up from below. As soon as the terrorists came near their cave, they started heavy firing. The army and police did not get a chance to recover. The route was also such that even if one wanted to, one could not take forceful retaliatory action under the cover of anything. There was also a danger of falling down.

When an army colonel, a major and a police DSP were shot, they could not be immediately taken to the hospital. There was heavy firing at that place. Neither the helicopter could be landed nor the injured officers could get immediate medical help. With great difficulty the bodies of all three could be taken out in the morning.

Explosives are being dropped through Heron

Since then, security forces have surrounded the hill where the terrorists were hiding from all sides. Explosives are being dropped at that place through Heron purchased from Israel. Rocket launchers are being fired. Special Forces soldiers are also continuously attacking. The problem is that the army has not yet been able to dominate the area. The geographical structure of that place is such that there is a lot of difficulty in carrying out the operation.

There are trained terrorists with modern weapons

According to the information, the number of terrorists in these hilly areas is more than two-three. These include Uzair Khan, who joined Lashkar Toiba last year. He has complete information about the area and the terrorists are benefiting from it. According to security experts, ordinary terrorists cannot stand before the security forces for so long. Their training is of top class and their weapons are also unmatched. It is also possible that the informer may have double crossed or someone may have leaked the movements of the security forces. Ending this operation has become a big challenge for the security forces.
