The main accused Lokesh Shrivas was hiding in Smriti Nagar, Bhilai in Durg district after committing the theft. Meanwhile, Lokesh’s associate Shiva Chandravanshi has been arrested by Bilaspur Police from Kawardha. Police have seized jewelery worth Rs 23 lakh from him.

    According to the information, Lokesh Shrivas is a vicious thief, who has expertise in stealing in jewelery shops. Lokesh is said to be a resident of Durg. The police was searching for him for a long time. Even before this biggest theft in Delhi, he had carried out similar incidents at many other places. The accused has already been arrested in a major theft in Parakh Jewelers of Bhilai. Every time he steals, he goes to jail and after being released from jail, he steals again. Accused Lokesh Shriwas targets the jewelery shop every time. He had committed many theft incidents in the state including Durg-Bhilai, Rajnandgaon, Kawardha.

    Earlier, while giving information about this on Friday, Delhi Police officials said that earlier this week, the accused entered the jewelery shop, broke into the strong room and took away jewelery worth more than Rs 25 crore as well as Rs 5 lakh in cash. Had absconded with it. At least three unidentified people were involved in the theft, which was one of the biggest thefts in the capital.

    Police said the shop, Umrao Singh Jewellers, in south Delhi’s Bhogal had several CCTV cameras, but they were damaged around midnight on Sunday. The owner closed the shop at around 8 pm on Sunday night and came to know about the incident when he opened the shop at around 10.30 am on Tuesday morning. The shop remains closed on Monday.

Transactions with customers take place on the ground floor of the showroom itself, while its upper three floors are used for storerooms and other jewelery related functions.

    According to the DCP, the shop owner has reported the theft of 30 kg of gold jewelery and Rs 5 lakh in cash. He said that a case has been registered in Hazrat Nizamuddin police station regarding this incident and several teams have been formed to solve the case. Shop owner Mahavir Prasad Jain told that his showroom is about 75 years old.
