At 23 years old, Manisha, hailing from Bondarnya village in Khargone’s Jhirniya block, achieved success in her fourth attempt by securing the 257th rank in UPSC 2023.

    Early Education in the Village

    Manisha’s journey began in an anganwadi in her village. Her father, Gangaram Dharve, an engineer, chose to stay in the village to ensure his children received their education locally, rather than moving to a bigger city for work. Alongside his wife, Jamna Dharve, a government school teacher, they provided a solid educational foundation for Manisha.

    Manisha always excelled in her studies. She completed her education up to the 8th grade in a government school and continued her 10th and 12th grades in schools in Khargone, choosing math and science for her higher secondary education. However, her dream was always to become an officer.

    Preparation in Delhi

    Manisha scored 75% in her 10th exams and 78% in her 12th exams. She then pursued a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Holkar College in Indore. After graduation, she decided to prepare for the UPSC exam and sought permission from her parents to move to Delhi. Initially hesitant, her family eventually agreed.

    Facing Failures Despite Hard Work

    Despite her rigorous efforts, Manisha failed in her first attempt and had to return to her village from Delhi. She faced multiple failures and criticism but remained undeterred, maintaining her focus on her goal. Her persistence paid off when she passed the UPSC exam in 2023.

    Manisha’s story is a testament to determination, showing that unwavering effort and self-belief can lead to success, no matter how many obstacles one faces.

    New Delhi: On Sunday, Praveen Sood, an officer of the Indian Police Services (IPS) from the Karnataka cadre, achieved a significant milestone by being appointed as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This decision was made by a panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking him as the third IPS officer from Karnataka to hold this prestigious position.

    Praveen Sood, currently serving as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, will serve as the Director of the CBI for a two-year term. His tenure as DGP began three years ago, a testament to his leadership in law enforcement.

    The journey of IPS officer Praveen Sood to this esteemed position is nothing short of inspirational. He entered the IPS at the age of 22, making him one of the youngest to join the force. A 1986 batch IPS officer, Sood is originally from Himachal Pradesh and is an alumnus of the renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

    Sood’s success story involves clearing the UPSC Civil Services Exam at the young age of 22, immediately after graduating from IIT Delhi. His career commenced as an assistant superintendent of police in Mysuru in 1989. Despite being recognized as one of the best IPS officers, Sood temporarily stepped away from his duties to pursue higher education. He obtained a master’s in public policy and management from IIMB and the Maxwell School of Governance, Syracuse University, New York.

    Having risen through the ranks, Sood served as the DGP of Karnataka Police for three years before assuming the role of Director of the CBI.

    A fascinating aspect of Praveen Sood’s personal life is his familial connection to Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket player Mayank Agarwal. Sood is the father-in-law of Mayank Agarwal, who is married to Aashita Sood, the daughter of the IPS officer. Mayank Agarwal is associated with the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    New Delhi: Only a select few, among millions of candidates, manage to succeed in India’s highly challenging UPSC exams after rigorous preparation. Numerous aspirants structure their study plans and formulate strategies, drawing inspiration from the achievements of top performers in previous years.

    The journey of 29-year-old Ayushi Dabas provides valuable lessons for every UPSC applicant. Despite facing vision impairment, Ayushi persevered in preparing for one of the nation’s toughest tests. In her fifth attempt, she achieved a remarkable All India Rank of 48 in the UPSC 2021, showcasing five years of dedicated effort.

    While Ayushi’s mother remains at home, her father works in Punjab for a private company. Ayushi attributes her success to her mother, Asha Rani, a senior nursing officer who voluntarily retired in 2020. Asha Rani, at 54, expressed unwavering confidence in her daughter’s ability to succeed. Ayushi, filled with excitement, mentioned that while she was confident about passing the test, achieving a rank below 50 brought unexpected joy.

    Ayushi completed her education in a private school in her hometown of Rani Khera and obtained her degree from Delhi University’s Shyama Prasad Mukherji College. Subsequently, she pursued a master’s in history at IGNOU. While her mother stayed at home and her father worked in Punjab, Ayushi’s determination led to her success.

    Despite being blind, Ayushi has been a teacher for the past decade, initially starting as a contract primary school teacher at an MCD institution. In 2019, after passing the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) test, she became a history teacher at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, number 2, Mubarakpur Dabas, teaching history to students in classes 11 and 12.

    Working hard to educate her students despite her visual impairment, Ayushi acknowledged that teaching is not just a profession but her passion. She aspires to contribute to the field of providing educational opportunities for females and people with disabilities. Ayushi equipped herself with a screen reading program that converts text to audio, making it easier for her to study on her laptop and phone. Her goal is to work towards learning, considering it a crucial tool for empowering individuals.
