  • ‘Grit, Determination, Resilience’: Virat Kohli Reacts To India Ending Bazball’s Winning Streak With Series Victory In Ranchi | cricket news

India beat England in the fourth Test in Ranchi to claim five-match series 3-1, all thanks to an all-round performance by the team. The best thing about this victory, yet again, was the resilience shown by the youngsters as Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill rose to the occasion when chips were down during the chase. India were 120 for 5, with 70-odd still required and with 5 sessions to go in the match. It was a matter of batting well in just one session to guide India to win and this is exactly what they did, taking the hosts to win with 5 wickets in hand.

After lunch on Day when Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan fell to back to back deliveries from Shoaib Bashir, it appeared as if this was England’s day. But Jurel and Gill put on a rock-solid show to deny English any wicket and got the win. Jurel, especially, batted with a lot of maturity that is rare to see in someone who is just 2 Test matches old. He rotated strike and gave Gill a breather at the other end. Gill finished with an unbeaten 52 off 124 balls that included just two sixes, and those two were also scored at te very end.

Virat Kohli, who decided to skip the series because of birth of his second child with wife Anushka Sharma, acknowledged the effort put in by the youngsters and the whole team. He did not waste too much time to take his thoughts to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “YES. Phenomenal series win by our young team. Showed grit, determination and resilience.”

Coming to the third Test, Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his brilliant run of form with third Test century and Shubman Gill hit an unbeaten half-century to help India secure a 322-run lead against England on the third day of the third Test at Rajkot on Saturday.

India ended the day at 196/2, with Shubman Gill (65*) and Kuldeep Yadav (3*) unbeaten. India started the final session at 44/1, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (19*) and Shubman Gill (5*) unbeaten. India reached the 50-run mark in 19 overs. Jaiswal and Shubman continued to hit at least a boundary per over, stitching a 50-run partnership.

Both young batsmen let their arms loose in the 27th over, smashing veteran pacer James Anderson for three fours and a six, with Jaiswal delivering more beating. Jaiswal reached his half-century in 80 balls, smashing spinner Tom Hartley for two sixes in the 28th over. India reached the 100-run mark in 27.5 overs.

Jaiswal and Gill were toying with the England spinners, bringing up their 100-run partnership in 122 balls. India reached the 150-run mark in 38.1 overs. Jaiswal continued his rich run of form, making his third century in 122 balls, with nine fours and five sixes. (Why Team India Is Wearing Black Arm Band In India vs England 3rd Test Day 3?)

With a six, Gill reached his fifth Test fifty in 98 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes. After experiencing some issues with his back, Jaiswal walked off the field, unbeaten on 104* and Rajat Patidar walked in. Rajat however, was dismissed for a duck by Tom Hartley. India was 191/2. India ended the final session without any further loss of wicket.

Earlier, before the final season, Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal came to open for India and the two batters put on 30 runs before England struck with the first wicket, Rohit, who scored a century in the first innings, went back on score of 19 runs. which included three boundaries.

Gill and Jaiswal put together 14 runs so far, ending the Tea session at 44/1.

Before this, Right-arm seamer Mohammad Siraj’s outstanding spell helped India take a 170-run lead at Tea on the third day of the third Test being played at Niranjan Shah Stadium on Saturday. England resumed the post-lunch session from 290/5 with Ben Stokes (39) and Ben Foakes (6) unbeaten at the crease.

Inside nine runs, the Three Lions first lost the wicket of Foakes (13) and then the wicket of Stokes (41). England were 299 and lost their next two wickets at the score of 314 runs as Rehan Ahmed (6) and Tom Hartley (9) went to the pavilion. James Anderson was the last man to go and scored only one run.

English were all-out for 319 runs it is the third successive time that India has taken a first-innings lead in the five-match series. India led by 124 runs before the start of their second innings. Other than left-hand opener Ben Duckett, who scored 153 runs with the help of 23 fours and two sixes, no bather was able to hit a big score.

For India, Siraj snapped four crucial wickets in his spell of 21.1 overs and conceded 84 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets each and Jasprit Bumrah and Ashwin had to be satisfied with one wicket each.

Earlier, starting day three, Jasprit Bumrah drew first blood as he removed Joe Root for 18 runs, breaking a 42-run partnership. Root tried to play a scoop shot and steal a boundary. However, the shot lacked timing as Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was placed at the slip, took a fantastic catch.

Kuldeep Yadav provided Team India with another breakthrough as he dismissed Jonny Bairstow for a duck. Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, England kept up the momentum. Duckett took a single off Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery and brought up his 150. He took 139 balls to reach the feat.

Duckett’s splendid innings came to an end as he tried to play a shot into the cover for a boundary but Gill intercepted and took a brilliant catch of the bowling of Kuldeep. After the dismissal of Duckett, the onus lay on the shoulders of Ben Stokes to take England ahead in the game and the captain kept the scoreboard ticking. The duo of Stokes and Ben Foakes rotated the strike, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls on offer.

The visitors ended the first session of the day at 290/5 with Stokes (39) and Ben Foakes (6) at the crease. Earlier at stumps on day two, England were sitting pretty at 207/2, going at a run-a-ball rate and trailing India by just 238 runs.

Kohli, who initially withdrew from the first two Tests citing “personal reasons,” continues to remain unavailable. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) disclosed Kohli’s decision just days before the series opener on January 22. Since then, no further updates have been provided by the board regarding his absence. BCCI’s statement read, “Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.”

While Kohli’s prolonged absence poses a challenge for India, there’s a glimmer of hope with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja on the path to recovery. Both players missed the second Test in Vizag due to injury concerns but are reportedly progressing well with their rehabilitation.

Virat Kohli and his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second child. The joyous news was indirectly confirmed by former South African cricketer AB de Villiers, shedding light on Kohli’s recent absence from the cricketing arena.

De Villiers, in a candid interview, shared insights into his communication with Kohli, where the Indian skipper expressed the need to prioritize his family during this crucial period. • ‘It’s Best To Ask…,’ Rahul Dravid Answers Question About Virat Kohli’s Availability For India vs England 3rd Test | cricket news

India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, mentioned on Monday that a decision regarding Virat Kohli’s participation in the third Test against England will be made after the team management discusses it with the former captain. The second Test in Visakhapatnam saw a remarkable bowling performance by Jasprit Bumrah and a three-for by Ravichandran Ashwin, leading India to a 106-run victory and leveling the series 1-1. Virat Kohli, initially named in the team for the first two Tests, withdrew due to personal reasons, and Dravid hinted that the lineup for the remaining matches will be disclosed soon. The selectors will address questions about Kohli’s availability in the upcoming days.

“I think it’s best to ask the selectors. I am sure they are the best people to answer ahead of the team selection for the next three Tests. We will get to that. I am sure there will be a selection over the next few days. We will connect with him and find out,” Rahul Dravid said during a post-match press conference on Monday in Vizag. Apart from Kohli, the hosts also missed experienced players – wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the second match. However, India rode on the brilliance of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s double ton, Shubman Gill’s century in the second innings and good bowling display in Vizag to seal victory in Vizag.

Admitting that India were under pressure in the game in a few situations, Dravid also said that the individual performances helped them get the win. (‘Ishan Kishan Needs To…’, Rahul Dravid Gives One-Sentence Answer To Wicketkeeper-Batter’s Comeback, Whereabouts)

“We were put under pressure at various times, but I think a couple of individual brilliance kept us in the game in the first couple of days. Yashasvi’s brilliant innings – 209 in that first innings. And then Bumrah’s spell on the first two days kept us or got us ahead by 140. And then, we needed a bit more of a team performance over days three and four to get us over the line,” Dravid said. India and England have a 10-day break before the action heads to Rajkot for the third Test, on February 15.

BCCI officially announced Kohli’s request to be withdrawn from the initial Tests, emphasizing the skipper’s need for privacy during this challenging time. The statement urged media and fans to refrain from speculating on the nature of Kohli’s personal reasons, urging everyone to focus on supporting the Indian cricket team as they face upcoming challenges in the Test series.

“Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming Test series against England, citing personal reasons,” BCCI said in an official statement.

“The BCCI requests the media and fans to respect Virat Kohli’s privacy during this time and refrain from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons. The focus should remain on supporting the Indian cricket team as they embark on the upcoming challenges in the Test series, ” the statement concluded.

    The Replacement

Rajat Patidar, a right-handed batsman, was swiftly called up to fill Kohli’s shoes in the first two Tests against England. Making his international debut last year against South Africa, Patidar showcased his prowess by scoring 22 runs from 16 balls with a commendable strike rate of 137.50.

    India’s Initial Setback

In the absence of Kohli, India suffered a setback in the first Test against England in Hyderabad, conceding a 28-run loss. The void left by the batting maestro was palpable, raising questions about the team’s dynamics and their ability to face the English challenge without their talismanic captain.

    Kohli’s Recent Form

Kohli’s last appearance on the field was during the T20I series against Afghanistan last month. While his performance was a mix of brilliance and disappointment, scoring a quickfire 29 and facing a golden duck in two matches, his absence in the longer format of the game is sure to be felt by the team.

  • Sarfaraz Khan’s Father Compares His Son With THIS Pakistan Cricket Legend | cricket news

In a cricketing world that is constantly evolving, emerging talents are the lifeblood of the sport. Sarfaraz Khan, a name resonating in the cricketing circles, is set to make his international debut in the second Test against England. What sets him apart, however, is not just his impeccable record in domestic cricket but the fascinating story behind his journey, as shared exclusively with JioCinema. Sarfaraz Khan, at 26, already carries the weight of immense expectations on his shoulders. Interestingly, he draws inspiration from a cricketing legend, Javed Miandad. In a candid revelation, Sarfaraz mentions that his father sees a striking resemblance between his batting style and that of the Pakistani great. This familial connection to Miandad adds a layer of sentiment and aspiration to Sarfaraz’s pursuit of excellence.

    — Virat Kohli Fan Club (@Trend_VKohli) February 1, 2024

“I like to watch Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sir Vivian Richards, and even Javed Miandad because my dad has told me that I play like him. I watch Joe Root’s batting also. Anyone who is succeeding, I am watching them to see how they are doing it so I can learn and apply it when I am in the middle. I want to continue doing this, whether it’s in the Ranji Trophy or playing for India in the future,” said Sarfaraz to JioCinema.

    Daily Grind and Observations

Sarfaraz’s commitment to his craft is evident in his rigorous training routine. Playing 500-600 balls every day has become a habit, and he attributes his success to an insatiable hunger for improvement. ‘My strength is that I am not satisfied easily. I play 500-600 balls every day. If I don’t play at least 200-300 balls in a match, I feel like I haven’t done much. It’s a habit now. Practice in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I am used to only one thing, batting and facing deliveries. If you want to play five-day cricket, you have to stay patient and practice every day. I play cricket all day and that’s why I can stay on the pitch for a long time,’ Khan said.

    The Road to International Cricket

Having enjoyed tremendous success in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz’s call-up to the Indian Test team is a testament to his consistent performance. His prolific run-getting ability, showcased by a splendid 161 off 160 balls against England Lions, sets the stage for a promising international career. The unexpected opportunities arising from injuries to key players like Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul opened the door for Sarfaraz to prove his mettle on the grand stage.

    Father’s Role in the Journey

Behind every successful athlete is a support system that fuels their dreams. Sarfaraz acknowledges the pivotal role his father, Naushad, played in shaping his cricketing journey. From introducing him to the sport to providing unwavering support during challenging times, Sarfaraz recognizes the impact of his father’s efforts. The father-son duo’s commitment is a narrative that resonates with aspiring cricketers and fans alike.

“My father introduced me to cricket, and I always wondered why am I even playing. By nature I am an attacking batsman and I used to get out sooner than other and scoring big runs was getting difficult. It was disheartening to see others succeed while I wouldn’t be among the runs. Even when I moved from Mumbai to UP, he would take flights to come and see me. He would start bowling to me on the terrace or the road itself before selection trials. Now I realize the impact. and importance of those efforts. When I came back to Mumbai from UP, I was scared if this would bring a halt to my career and I strongly felt there was no future ahead of me, but my dad always stood by me. There’s no guarantee. in life if you don’t get opportunities. But my dad always believed in hard work, and everything I have is a result of that work,” he added.

    Decision Dilemma: Patidar or Sarfaraz

As India faces the challenge of filling the void left by KL Rahul’s absence, the debate emerges: Rajat Patidar or Sarfaraz Khan? Both players boast impressive first-class records, making the decision a tough one for the team management. Patidar’s experience in high-pressure situations, especially in the IPL, contrasts with Sarfaraz’s ability to thrive on Indian pitches.

Dean Elgar, former South Africa captain, recently revealed that during a Test match, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli allegedly “spat at him.” Elgar shared that Kohli apologized for the incident two years later after being confronted by his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate AB de Villiers. Elgar, who retired from international cricket after leading South Africa in the two-Test series against India in December, mentioned that he had confrontations with Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin on a podcast. Although he didn’t specify the series in question, it is speculated to be during South Africa’s tour of India in 2015.

“All the time,” Elgar said on ‘Banter with The Boys’ podcast sitting alongside former South African all-rounder Chris Morris and rugby player Jean de Villiers. (“One Day We Will Miss Virat Kohli, The Captain”, Ex-IND Cricketer’s Post From 2021 Goes Viral After India Lose 1st Test Vs England)

Elgar then said, “In India…Those wickets were jokes.” “And I came into bat and I was actually like holding my own against Ashwin and what’s his name Jajeja… ja-ja-jajeja, (‘Jadeja’, said someone in the background) and Kohli, he like spat at me,” Elgar. said.”I said to him, ‘if you do that, I’ll f***g*** you with this bat’,” Elgar claimed.

“Yes, he did because (AB) de Villiers was his teammate at RCB so he understood. I said ‘if you do that, I’ll absolutely knock you out’,” Elgar claimed.

The former South African opener said after de Villiers found out about the incident, he took up the matter with his good friend and RCB teammate. Elgar did not specify when exactly de Villiers discussed the incident with Kohli.

“Anyway, so, realized that de Villiers found out what he did and went up to him and said ‘bud, why are you spitting at my teammate bud? That’s not on’ and two years later, he (Kohli) calls me aside playing (in) South Africa and said ‘can we go have a drink at the end of the series?’

“‘I want to just apologize for my actions’. Two years later in South Africa, he says he wants to apologize for what he did. We had a drink, (the) punchline is we drank till 3 am in the morning. This is when he used to drink, now he is obviously converted a bit,” Elgar added.

Former India cricketers Ravi Shastri and Farokh Engineer were awarded the prestigious Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award on Tuesday during the Naman Awards.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah presented the award to Shastri and Farokh. In Shastri’s international cricket career which panned from 1981 to 1992, Shastri served as a highly useful all-rounder, capable of playing any role for his team and grinding it out in tough situations. He often played as an opener or in the middle order while batting and could deliver some crucial overs of left-arm spin too.

Shastri had a solid Test record. In 80 Test matches, he scored 3,830 runs at an average of 35.79. He scored 11 centuries and 12 fifties in 121 innings of his career, with the best individual score of 206. The all-rounder has also taken 151 wickets, with best bowling figures of 5/75.

Shastri is part of the team which won the 50-over Cricket World Cup in 1983. In the tournament, he scored 40 runs in five innings, with the best score of 17 and took a total of four wickets, with the best bowling spell of 3/26.

Another career-defining moment came for Shastri in 1985 when he played a big role in his team’s win at the World Championship of Cricket, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

Shastri won the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award for scoring 182 runs in five matches at an average of 45.50, with three fifties. He also took eight wickets, finishing as the joint-third-highest wicket-taker. (MS Dhoni Did Not Attend Ram Temple Inauguration, Wife Sakshi Shares Pic Of ‘Ram Lalla’ On Insta; Check Here)

After the conclusion of his international cricket career in 1992, he was heard as a commentator. His authoritative voice, enthusiasm and knowledge of the game make him one of the country’s most beloved commentators. His calls during India’s winning moments in T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 still live in the minds of millions.

On the other hand, Farokh was well known for his craftmanship with the bat and agility behind the stumps. His skillset made him best suited for keeping to the legendary spin quartet of Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar and Venkataraghavan.

Farokh during his career played 46 Test matches for India and amassed 2611 runs which included two centuries and 16 half-centuries.

His most memorable moment as a batsman was against West Indies at Madras in 1966–67. He scored 94 before lunch on the first day against the iconic pacers Wes Hall, Charles Griffith, Gary Sobers and spinner Richard Gibbs. The list of award winners includes Lala Amarnath, Syed Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare, Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and many more. (With ANI inputs)
