    New Delhi: Elon Musk announced on Saturday that X platform is stepping into the realm of online video streaming, posing a challenge to Google-owned YouTube. This new streaming service will allow users to enjoy long videos directly on their smart TV screens. 

    The company is set to launch a TV app for Amazon and Samsung smart TVs, as confirmed by Musk in response to a post by an X user. The user had shared excitement about being able to watch long-form X videos on SmartTVs, to which Musk replied, “coming soon.” (Also Read: Sam Altman Finally Returns To OpenAI Board)

    “We just want people to be able to watch long videos in comfort on their big screen TV,” the billionaire posted on X.     One of his followers commented that this move by X is a “strategic step towards diversifying its platform and competing in the ever-evolving digital content landscape”. “It will be intriguing to see how this foray into video streaming will impact the larger ecosystem of online media consumption.     Beyond smart TVs, the social media network is also exploring video games, podcasts and long-form writing. Taking on legacy media, X on Friday introduced ‘Articles’ which is a new way to share long-form written content on the platform.

    Premium users who subscribe to X services now have the ability to publish articles on the platform. These articles can include stylized text, embedded images, and videos. Additionally, users can format their text using various features such as headings, sub-headings, bold, italics, strikethrough, indentation, numerical lists, and bulleted lists.(With Inputs From IANS)

    Reactions From Workers

    Speaking to The Washington Post, Benedict expressed his shock and anger at the sudden termination of his employment. He and his colleagues believe that they were targeted as an example to discourage others from making similar demands.

    Company Responses

    Google distanced itself from the layoffs, stating that the contracts with its suppliers typically end at their natural expiry date. Similarly, Cognizant described the layoffs as part of their regular business operations, with contracts ending “naturally.”

    Employee Support

    In response to the layoffs, the affected employees will be provided with seven weeks of paid time to explore other opportunities within the company.

    The layoffs come after YouTube Music contract workers voted to unionize last year, seeking improved pay, benefits, and flexible return-to-office policies. However, Google refused to negotiate with the contract workers, citing their status as non-employees of the company.

    “Today, we’re helping you take it to a whole new level with the ability to remix a music video on Shorts, unlocking even more ways to connect and get creative with your favourite artists and their music on YouTube,” said company in a statement.

    How to Remix videos in Shorts

    YouTube introduces the option to create Shorts alongside videos, enabling users and their friends to choreograph alongside their favorite artists. Users now have the ability to use videos as backgrounds for their Shorts allowing them to capture their real-time reactions while listening to content for the first time.

    “On YouTube, you can watch the music video on repeat, check out other Shorts that have been created from the same song by fellow fans, and discover deep catalog cuts from your favourite artists and relive those moments by remixing them as your own,” informed the company.

The company has given this information in a blog post. YouTube has said that all the stories which are live before June 26, will expire after 7 days from the date of sharing. From June 26, no YouTube creator will get the option of Stories. Google-owned YouTube launched the YouTube Stories feature in 2017. Through this, creators promote their big videos. The blog post also reveals that the company wants to focus on other video-related methods like YouTube Shorts, Live etc. YouTube has said that Stories is being phased out to prioritize these core features. YouTube has asked content creators to focus on community posts and YouTube shorts. YouTube will also inform its creators about recent developments through different mediums. It will be told through forum posts, in-app messages, reminders that YouTube Stories is being discontinued. The special thing is that the Stories feature was not the product of YouTube. It was prepared with inspiration from Snapchat. This feature was for those creators who had reached a certain limit of subscribers and wanted to promote their big videos through short videos. The company is now focusing on community posts and YouTube shorts. Earlier this year, YouTube had said that it is starting to share advertising revenue with creators who make shorts videos. YouTube will take 55 percent of the earnings and the creator will get 45 percent. This program has started from 1st February. YouTube has also implemented a new partner program agreement for this, which creators have till July 10 to accept.

    Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that action will be taken against those who do not comply with the rules.

    New Delhi:

    The government has issued notices to social media platforms ‘X’ (earlier Twitter), YouTube and Telegram to remove child sexual abuse material from their platforms in India. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that if social media companies do not act swiftly, their ‘protection’ under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act will be withdrawn. This means that these platforms can be prosecuted under directly applicable laws and regulations. Even if they have not uploaded the content.

    The statement said, “The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a notice to social media companies X, YouTube and Telegram. In this, they have been warned to remove Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) from their platforms on the Indian Internet. The notices given to these platforms emphasize the importance of removing any CSAM or disabling access to them with immediate effect.

    The ministry said that non-compliance with the notice will be considered as a violation of Rule 3(1)(b) and Rule 4(4) of the IT Rules, 2021. The ministry has warned the three social media intermediaries that any delay in complying with the notice will lead to withdrawal of the protection given to them under Section 79 of the IT Act, which currently protects them from legal liability.

    Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, said, “The government is committed to creating a safe and reliable internet under the IT rules. The rules laid down under the IT Act place strict expectations on social media intermediaries to ensure that they maintain their “Criminal or harmful posts should not be allowed on the platform.”

    The Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 has provisions to ban obscene material, including child sexual abuse material. Under Sections 66E, 67, 67A and 67B of the IT Act, provisions have been made for strict penalties and fines for online broadcasting of obscene or indecent material.

    Soon game lovers will also be able to enjoy playing games on YouTube. The company is testing for its game, about which we had told you in a report some time ago also. The name of this game is said to be Playables which can be played directly on YouTube app and website. Right now it is going through the experimental feature phase of the company, but there is news that soon it may go live for the users. Currently, the company has made it available as an experimental feature for some users in which it is being tested. This clearly means that the company can launch it officially soon. The company has indicated about this in a blog post. Through testing, the company will decide on the basis of feedback whether the game will be launched globally or not.

The company’s CEO, Neal Mohan, plans to explore new areas for growth due to declining advertising revenue, and these include online games.

    It was said in the report that many games have been made available to the employees for testing. These also include Stack Bounce arcade game with advertisements. In this game players have to break layers of bricks with a bouncing ball. YouTube is going to try to earn revenue from the gaming industry through online gaming.
