During the Brussels summit, ASML’s Vice President of Global Public Affairs, Frank Heemskerk, commented on the challenges European companies face in accessing EU officials. He stated that gaining access to top policymakers, such as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, isn’t always straightforward. Heemskerk contrasted this with the ease of access to senior officials in the White House, as per a former colleague. This follows a disclosure that ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for two hours. Heemskerk recounted Modi’s response: ‘You are very personable, tell me what we can do better.’ The ASML executive believes this is a point that European policymakers need to consider, suggesting that political leaders should prioritize discussions with companies that are making significant investments. He also commented on ASML’s recent €1.3 billion deal with the French artificial intelligence company Mistral.
