Jack Dorsey’s Bitchat is generating buzz as it enters the messaging arena. The app, now available on the Apple App Store, presents a unique proposition: it functions without an internet connection. This feature is a key differentiator from WhatsApp, which relies on internet connectivity for messaging. Bitchat employs Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networking to facilitate secure, peer-to-peer encrypted messaging without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Furthermore, Bitchat enhances user privacy by not requiring registration with a phone number or email. Messages are end-to-end encrypted and stored locally, with an option for self-deletion. In contrast, WhatsApp necessitates a phone number for account creation. This innovative app could prove crucial during internet shutdowns or in areas with limited network access, offering a reliable means of communication.
