Electronics Prices to Fall as GST Rates Reduced on Key Products

A recent decision by the GST Council brings good news for consumers with the reduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on various electronic appliances. Starting today, the GST on items like air conditioners, televisions, dishwashers, and refrigerators has been slashed from 28% to 18%. This change applies to televisions including LCD/LED models, monitors, projectors, and set-top boxes. The price reduction is expected to make these items more attractive to buyers. Additionally, the GST cut extends to home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines, bringing them into the 18% tax bracket. Renewable energy equipment, including solar panels, will also become cheaper, with the tax rate dropping from 12% to 5%. However, mobile phones and laptops will retain their existing tax rates.
