A new chapter in India’s manufacturing saga unfolded in Sanand, Gujarat, where PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Micron Technology’s cutting-edge ATMP complex. Cheers poured in from the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), which celebrated the government’s partnership with the American leader.
Eyewitness to history, IESA head Ashok Chandak said: ‘It’s a proud moment to see India assert itself in sophisticated chip design and production.’ Capturing the essence in PM Modi’s triple pledge—’Ready, reliable, result-giving’—he underscored the drive for a top-tier semiconductor landscape.
The Rs 22,516 crore ($2.75 billion) infusion by Micron eclipses most global peers’ commitments here, leveraging its local design arms. Focus areas: DRAM, NAND, SSDs empowering AI realms, HPC, consumer gadgets, enterprise storage, vehicle tech, and digital evolution.
Strategic edge in memory fab—held by few—gains urgency with AI surge and supply risks, per IESA’s assessment. This plant, alongside designs and fresh facilities, catapults India’s prowess, enabling design-led growth and trade.
Economic ripple: 5,000 jobs on-site, 15,000 off-site, building a semiconductor-savvy workforce. The launch cements policy execution, marking India’s ascent as a trusted hub for next-gen chip assembly.
