Users can breathe a sigh of relief: Paytm UPI will continue to operate beyond August 31st. The primary update revolves around recurring payments, prompted by notifications on platforms like Google Play. If you currently pay for subscriptions such as YouTube Premium or Google One Storage using Paytm UPI, a change to your UPI handle is necessary. Instead of the @paytm handle, users must switch to new handles: @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi. This adjustment does not affect one-time UPI payments, including purchases from Google Play or transactions with merchants. The shift is a result of Paytm’s designation as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) by NPCI, requiring the migration to new bank-partnered handles. The August 31st deadline is due to new rules taking effect on September 1st, which will impact subscriptions using the old handle. To ensure uninterrupted service, users are encouraged to update their UPI ID within the Paytm app to reflect the new handle. Alternatively, users can link their recurring payments to other UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM UPI, or WhatsApp UPI, or use debit/credit cards for subscription payments.
