Two Diving Assist Vessels to be launched in Vizag on Thursday: Navy

Two Diving Assist Vessels (DSVs) of the Indian Navy might be launched in Visakhapatnam on Thursday within the presence of Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar.

The DSVs are first-of-its-kind ships indigenously designed and constructed at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Vishakapatnam for the Navy, officers had stated on Wednesday.

The DSVs are scheduled to be launched on September 22, the Navy stated.

“Chief of the Naval Employees Admiral R Hari Kumar would be the chief visitor on the launching ceremony,” it added.

The vessels might be launched by his spouse Kala Hari Kumar, president of Navy Welfare and Wellness Affiliation (NWWA), who would even be performing the standard honour and naming them, the Navy stated.

The vessels are 118.4-m-long, 22.8 m on the broadest level and can have a displacement of 9,350 tonnes, the Navy stated in an announcement.

“These ships could be deployed for deep sea diving operations. Moreover, with Deep Submergence Rescue Automobile (DSRV) embarked, the DSVs are designed to undertake submarine rescue operations, in case requirement exists. Moreover, these ships might be able to sustained patrolling, conducting search and rescue operations and finishing up helicopter operations at excessive seas.
