Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, is in Bangladesh for a crucial two-day visit, coinciding with the approach of general elections. The visit is sparking interest due to the perceived alignment between Pakistan and elements critical of the current government led by Sheikh Hasina. Dar’s interactions include meetings with leaders from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the NCP. A meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam and a large BNP delegation took place at the Pakistan High Commission in the Gulshan area of Dhaka, where discussions focused on bilateral relations. Furthermore, Dar’s schedule includes a meeting with former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. The meetings underscore Pakistan’s interest in influencing the upcoming elections and potentially fostering closer ties with a future government. The visit commenced with Dar being received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary, Asad Alam Siam.
